Today on TRL, Ashley Parker Angel (former O-town member) mentioned he loved the new Mae (www.whatismae.com) album, The Everglow, and during an interview said that if he was picking someone to go out on tour with him, he would like Mae to come.

i'm feeling really defensive today, so:

1. ashley writes his own songs. he wrote several songs for o-town's second album.
2. he plays guitar and piano, and played them while on tour with o-town.

last time i checked, writing your own music and playing your own instruments pretty much qualifies you as a "musician."

I actually watched the show, and it seemed incredibly staged and phony. Maybe it wasn't, but they sure did a good job of making it seem that way. Especially with the pausing of the video and him coming out of the "scene" to state his opinion on the situation.

My favorite part of his show is how he says that everyone has this perception of him being in a boy band yet on his flyers it says "former boy band/o-town star". I guess he's got no problem using it to get his foot in the door though.

The whole show is an obvious money-maker for MTV, even if the dude don't sell records him and MTV will be laughing their way to the bank, cause (me included) people that don't like him will watch this regardless.

MTV is totally using the show for money. Why not any other member of O-Town? Why Ashley? Because Ashley was the cute one all the little girls loved. And now those little girls love Yellowcard and Simple Plan (not really bashing, I'm sure some of those girls have other taste). They needed to market Ashley in the rock/pop Ryan Cabrera scene.

They're getting ahold of what music really is. Look what they did to Hellogoodbye and Halifax from being on the Real World. Not saying that it isn't great for the musicians, but we know MTV brings in that young crowd, and most of that crowd doesn't like the musicians for their music. They like them cuz so and so is cute. The music takes the back seat which is really sad. I don't know how many times in the past few months I have missed shows because they've been sold out. These shows are being sold out to kids that only go because its the cool thing to do and everyone else likes the band. Completely leaves the people who are truly there for the music pissed off.

On the other side of things, Ashley did write and play a lot of his own stuff during and after O-Town. Whether he is now, I don't know. I liked the guy when I met him, but then again I rarely meet anyone I don't like.

Totally agree. Shows that I didnt not expect to sell out, sold out before I knew it. I know there have been at least two in the past couple months, its frustrating and is sadly making me very paranoid when I see a show coming up that I like.

call me what you will, but i enjoyed watching the show. it gave a lot of people some good insight as to what the music industry is really like. i love seeing what those guys are up to now, one of them doing construction. you kind of see that it's not the people in a band that make money, its the label execs and stuff. i am gonna keep watching the show, and even if i don't love the guys music, i'm not going to hate on him for trying.
