STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- All-American linebacker Paul Posluszny will bypass the NFL draft and return to Penn State for his senior year.

Posluszny, winner of the Butkus Award as the country's top linebacker, partially tore two ligaments in his right knee late in the fourth quarter of the Nittany Lions' 26-23 triple overtime win over Florida State in the Orange Bowl last week.

Team doctors said Posluszny will need six to eight weeks of rehabilitation. He most likely will be ready when spring practice starts in late March.

His return will ease coach Joe Paterno's makeover on defense, which will lose seven senior starters.

agreed...he was projected 10-20 this year with a pretty solid draft class. one more year to show off his skills will help him a lot.

even if he didnt get hurt ..i don't think coming out would have been the right move. this is a good year for linebackers, with hawk, ryans and greenway ahead of him for sure.

Penn St. couldn't have lost him, along with all the other kids that were graduating.
They'll still be #3 in Big Ten, I think, next year.

He's an excellent player, even though AJ Hawk is still 5 times better, and he'll be a lock for the all-american team next year

I know Ohio State is above them, but who else do you have, just curious, my college football knowledge is fairly low.

Michigan can make a case on paper. Of course, whether or not that translate into success under Carr isnt guaranteed. Iowa has a good team returning as well. The way things look early ..and its still way too early to have a good idea ...I see the top of the Big Ten as Ohio St, Michigan, Iowa, Penn St, Wisconsin ..in that order.

It's not like Lloyd Carr is just coming in. He's won a nat'l championship at U of M so he's had success. they'll be fine next year, this year was just injuries (a.k.a. injured mike hart) and a slow start that killed them. They'll be fine next year (this coming from a MSU fan).

Right now, this is how the year will start:

1. Ohio State
2. Penn State
3. Iowa

It would have been wisconsin at 2, and penn st. 3, but brian calhoun, their RB, is going pro. so they drop out.

But I think the end of the season will be:

1. Michigan
2. Ohio State
3. Iowa

I like Poz, I also believe PSU isn't going to take that much of a step back on defense.

A Loyyyyyyyyyyd Carr coached Michigan is a shoe in for at least 3 losses every year (usually the bulk of those losses are teams theyve should have beat)

i looked at 2 or 3 different lists that had him in the 20's. hawk, ryans, and greenway were all 5-12. It's a great class for LB's, especially with those 3 at the top. polusny would have been no higher than the 4th LB off the board if he didnt sustain that injury ...and if he came out w/ the injury, he might have slid all the way out of the 1st round.

Really smart move on his part. Next years AJ Hawk. Who is going to be the first LB picked next year though him or Ahmad Brooks?

i would too if i wasn't getting THAT much attention...(aj hawk is getting more) and i hurt myself. he will be huge next year.
