Matt of The Starting Line (http://www.startinglinerock.com) recently addressed the band's current move from Geffen Records to Virgin Records. Read the statement below.
So as some of you may or may not know, we recently parted ways with Geffen Records. In life there are some relationships that for one reason or another just don't work out, and this happened to be one of them. At times it was very frustrating, but they were kind enough to end this relationship peacefully.
After a few months of meetings with labels, and unbelievable dinners, we decided to sign with Virgin Records. I cannot express how excited we all are about this…everyone at Virgin that we've met with are fans of TSL and we're even more excited about building this relationship and making the best TSL record possible.
It's amazing how frustrated one can get in a situation like the one we were in, and to have a new life so to speak adds a completely new level of enthusiam to our band and to our music. I'm very excited to see what the future holds for us, and I thank everyone for being so patient and understanding…and for still listening to our music.

i'm ecstatic for the guys. been one of my favorite bands for a long time. Drive Thru really put them out there, geffen bent them over, and their new album was overshadowed by F.U.C.T. hopefully virgin gives the guys the time and effort that they deserve.

bands never learn their lesson with major labels. what makes them think virgin will treat them better then geffen

And I take it that you have learned your lesson with major labels? TSL sell like a major label band and sound like a major label band... what were they supposed to do? Sign with Victory or Fearless? Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I think it's absurd of you to completely lump all major labels into a pile of shit when you probably have no reasoning or prior experience to base that statement around... it's a bit ignorant. I'm sick of people looking for any reason to rip into every major label on the planet, especially when 99% of these people have never dealt with ANY major label in their lives... it's just completely out of line. There's a million bands on this planet who are completely unhappy or, better yet, despise the independent label they're on... nobody gives the indie's shit...

Haha, that's good stuff. Yeah, well, I'm no expert but for the plunger to work I'm pretty sure you gotta place it in all the shit, near the middle. And plunge away. Good luck with that man, keep on keepin on.

well said. TSL is def at the level to go to a Major label. The peeps at Geffen were not big fans of them and TSL had to fight hard just to get 1 music video made for "Bed Room Talk". Just liek anti-flag these guys know what they are doing. They arent a new band signing to their first label. That didnt jsut get this by having a money hungry manger shoppingthem. They met everybody at these labels and know whats right. I wish them the best and I'm sure the best is coming.
I love this band so much, since i heard 3s a charm. My fav band on dtr. I'll always consider them a dtr band till i die haha. To say that they should of gone back down to a indie label would be sutpid. With the release of Say it like you mean it, the band started to succeed at mainstream success. BOATS should of exploded into something bigger than it was. Geffen didn't promote it, probably one of the best albums to come out of 2005 but never got the recognition it deserves. As well this band deserves to be on a mainstream they've worked so hard. Plus their sound is radio friendly, to say that they should of gone and take a step down is stupid.

I also think that the lack of promotion for the new album was not entirely Geffen's fault.....How the hell were they supposed to promote a single to the mainstream with a chorus like "I'm gonna tear your ass up like we just...."
if TSL were trying to blow up real big, they should not have pushed that song as a single, that was just a stupid move...from a business stand point

Try taking a large pot/pan, fill it with hot water, and dump it into the toilet. Usually that works to break it up for me. Good luck with that.

I agree to a certain extent. I think they were trying to get some shock value out of their single. Maybe since Geffen was doing jack shit, they had to make themselves known for one, that they were trying to push the envelope within general pop punk lyrics, and two to make Geffen aware that their was a band who was willing to take a chance with an edgy song. I really enjoy TSL, they write good songs and its a band where you always know what your gonna get it the end.
BOATS is still on heavy rotation for me.

In other Virgin Records news, We Are Scientists released their major-label debut LP today!
I've said it before, and here it is again: a tour with these two new labelmates would put the cream in my jeans.

The starting line is amazing, though I didn't really like boats as a whole, and thought it did not match up to say it like you mean it, they're still a kickass band.
