ok, so this isn't the first time ive seen this movie. I saw the original theatrical version in theatres a long time ago. I just now sat down and watched the directors cut. I understand most of the movie, But is there anyone that knows this movie very well that can break it down for me? I really need to know. It's actually bothering me, i feel like i missed a huge part of a movie. Please help, thanks. -Matt

well the dvd was scratched and messed up so i missed like 2 scenes towards the end. Plus, i don't understand this movie as a whole. Parallel universes?

Ashton Kutcher has black outs which allow him to change the past (and present and future) by changing the events that happenned during the black outs in the end he makes it so he was never born and so he never effected anyones life

Thank you. That helped, but you still left out a few things. 1. how did he make it so he wasn't born!? 2. Parallel universes? ( like donnie darko) Is this the same thing or am i just fucking retarded. I think it's along the same line..

in one of the scenes it talked about how his mom had already had miscarriages... so he used his ability to go back in time tobefore he was born and choke himself with the umbilical cord.. thats the difference in ending in the directors cut

yeah that ending fucking sucked. the ending that was in theatres was when he goes back to his birthday party where he meets that girl and her brother and tells them that he'll kill her if she ever comes near him again. this makes her move away with her mom instead of staying with her psyhco dad.

He goes back and wraps the embilical cord around his neck in the womb, its really too far of a stretch, even for this film.
And I don't think it's talking about parallel universes, at least I hope it isn't, because it failed if it is. It seems more an attempt at dispelling the "If I could just change that one moment..." myth, that people would improve their lives by changing their past in small ways. To be honest, the more I think about it, the more the film was bad. The opening 45 minutes were fairly suspenseful-ish, but the rest of the movie doesn't support itself well.

To be honest, I thought they both were terrible endings. The theatrical one seemed overly cliche, it tried to make itself an ending to a romance/drama movie, which it really isn't. The movie just has so many flaws with it. It relied way too heavily on suspension of disbelief, which caused me to notice flaws while I was watching, something I normally don't catch until the 2nd time through.
