I will be interviewing producer Matt Squire (Northstar, The Receiving End of Sirens, Panic! At the Disco, etc.) in the near future. Please leave any questions you'd like for me to ask in the replies.

He's such a great guy. And I don't have any questions because I've already asked him most of the questions I'd want to know anyways.

I'm interested in a producer's take on the use of auto-tune in recordings. As well as when/why he'll use it on a band. Like, what circumstances, or is it just another tool (like tuning a guitar)?

Good question. I'm also gonna ask if he's ever had to bring in a studio musician b/c someone was incapable of playing their instrument. I've read interviews with other producers where even some of the biggest rock bands in America have to do that...I forget who said it, but he was like "You'd be surprised at the incompetence of a lot of the people I work with."

Out of curiousity, how are you interviewing him? Through e-mail, instant messenger, person, phone, etc.?

Email. Phone would've been good, but I have a lot of questions, and he's a busy dude, so it's prob best if he can just answer them at his convenience.

what kind of technique does he use as a producer, like is he hands-on where he'll say "change this chord, sing this differently, etc", or is he more hands-off where he'll let the band do exactly what they want to do?

What he thinks is the best way to get started as a producer/engineer, either by interning, or getting your own gear and practicing/recording as many bands as you can?

Also, How he got started and how long has he been producing?

What are some of his favorite pieces of equipment to use?

Does Matt Squire only work with artists signed to labels and does he work from a commercial studio in Baltimore?

i dunno if this would be rude or not but, ask him if he knows anything about cassino, the new band that includes some of northstar's old members. thanks

No, he works with unsigned artists as well and his studio is in College Park, about 15 minutes outside of DC.

What were some of his favorite albums that he's worked on, and what album does he feel he has put the most work into (effort-wise, use of various instruments, etc etc.).

What bands/artists influence his him as a producer? What is currently in his CD Player/on his iPod?

What is his favorite part about producing an album/EP, and what is his least?

(I'm a total nerd, but I also am curious. He's very talented.)

How'd he become a producer? How would one become a producer? Would he entertain a summer intern? ;)

ask him what his favorite record he has produced is and if he is going to produce cassinos record... also tell him that hes an amazing producer and he deserves all the success in the world.
