I need help understanding the grading system in schools, example America and Europe.

In the Caribbean there is...

Kindergarten (3-5 years old)

Primary School (5-11/12 years old).
Last year of school would be Entrance Exam for Secondary School. The Ministry of Education place you in what ever School of your choice that coincides with your results from the exam. Most likely in a school near where you live.

Secondary School (11/12- 16/17/18/19 old).
It's a seven year institution that is split into two, Form 1-5. At the end of Form 5 You have to write CXC, which you can leave school with but most go the next two years, Lower and Upper Form 6 (2years). Then you write A' levels for University.

University (Universal, I don't have to explain that)

Can anyone explain the schooling system in other Countries like U.S.A or England, France, Spain or any other Country in Europe. Canada would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance guys!!

For us in the Toronto area there are three routes, that I've heard of.. Depends on the schools in your area. Everyone of a birth year, say 91 is the same class, unlike in the US where it's whether your a particular age before the start of the school year.

You graduate when everyone's either 18 or will turn 18 by December 31st. (There are some that stay back or were held back or for some reason were pushed up 1 grade)

Elementary - Jr/Sr/1-6
Middle - 7,8,9
High - 10, 11, 12

or

Elementary - Jr/Sr/1-8
High - 9-12

or

Elementary - Jr/Sr/1-6
Middle - 7 and 8
High - 9-12

Mine consisted of the following.

Pre-school - basically a day care :)

Kindergarten - 5 years old, kind of a preparation for actual elementary school if you will

Elementary - grades 1-6
Middle School (sometimes called Junior High, basically same concept) - grades 7 - 9
- note, in 9th grade you're technically a freshman in high school but I never really felt like one.

High School - grades 10-12. Graduating early is possible, but most graduate after completing 12th grade or their "senior" year.

Then University, etc... like you mentioned.

Mesthead!

Technically the proper way is

Pre-School
Kindergarten
Elementary 1-5
Middle school 6-8
High school 9-12

But my district was 1-6, 7-9 and 10-12.

Pre-school isn't mandatory so it's not really proper. 'Sup Matt?

Haha, just yankin' your chain.

Good, good. Just got the new UFC game and can't stop playing it. Other than that, working lots and keepin' the car on the road.

It's different in some parts of BC, but where I live it goes like this.

Elementary School (K - Grade 7)
High School (Grade 8 - 12)
