Well, quarteback wise it makes sense with a young Aaron Rodgers coming up, but as a head coach?

And he was Favre's QB coach in 99, so perhaps GB is hiring him to keep Favre, but if they wanted to hire a coach just to keep Favre, they would've hired Mariucci.

I guess he serves that dual purpose, getting Rodgers to improver while maybe keeping Favre, but I think if Sherman stayed for another year, Favre would have too.

wow. since when has SF been the hot bed in this century for filling head coaching vacancies? First the lions look into Mike Singletary and now this? what the fuck?

haha, since when has SF been the hotbed for anything this century (other than for Bond's to find steroids)

QB's that aren't pocket passers and can't throw the ball downfield. (jeff garcia, alex smith.)

Ken Dorsey, Tim Rattay, Cody Pickett

PS: Too bad Cody Pickett doesn't play, he has 49ers quarterback in his name (PICKett)

I forgot Ken Dorsey was still in the league.
And tim rattay just doesn't matter enough for me to mention.

Man, they do like their noodle armed qb's more than I thought.

Im thinking someone else is probably more well-suited for that job. I was under the impression that there were a lot of talented coaches looking for jobs right now.

It'd be a good idea minus the fact that Aaron Rogers isn't exactly "the savior."

i don't think they're doing anything to try to get him to come back.

they're ready to move on as an organization, but they're not ready to shove him out the door.

they'll do what they want to do. if he comes back, great. if not, whatever.

it's all about the packers and their future this offseason. not brett favre's. sadly.

i remember watching his press conference for the firing of Mike Sherman and truly appreciating Scott Pioli. It only takes one man to fuck an entire organization up (see: Matt Millen).

I think i agree with what Dan Shanoff said on ESPN.com

"Like you, my first reaction when I heard the Packers hired the 49ers' offensive coordinator was to laugh. Weren't the 49ers one of the most pitiful offenses in the NFL last season?

But apparently, McCarthy is one of those "brilliant offensive minds" that has massaged various QBs to, well, various levels of success. You might hear this: "He even worked with Brett Favre directly in 1999!"

Grain o' Salt: In '99, Favre posted the 3rd-worst QB rating of his career, had a career-low completion percentage and threw 23 picks. (And yet, those numbers would be improvements over 2005. Zing!)

McCarthy also helped "develop" Aaron Brooks. Take that as you will."
