yeah it is pretty fucking awesome - minus the injuries....i wonder how the team will look with esche (as the backup!), primeau, desjardins, and pitkanen all back.

ottawa is good.. but lets face it.. they aren't that good. the B's have handed them two of their losses and the B's stink this year. but i still love 'em

phillys depth is second to none, should be interesting to see if clarkey does anything at the trade deadline this year

at detroit tonight, then finally some home games for the flyers. i'm sorry but as banged up as they are to go 8-2 on an insane road trip makes it a pretty easy call for me, at least right now in the season.

i'd take ottawa any day. philly can't win in the playoffs. the sens definitely got a steal with heatley.

Right, especially because of what happened last year in the playoffs, oh wait.
You really can't judge teams based on their history after what has happened the last two seasons. The rules changed and all the teams got a pretty significant roster shake up.

right but you can't judge a team based on the fact that they're 2-0 against ottawa, not saying you are but come on...no one will say Boston is one of the best just cause they beat the Sens.
oh and dude, you shoulda told everyone that Ottawa has played less games than all the teams up there.

Ottowa has the potential if they'd played the same amount of games to have a better record than Philly...and I agree you can't take a team just because they beat a team earlier in the year, but right now, the Flyers are playing better than anyone in hockey. Ottawa's up there too. And the Canes are getting no love but looked great against Detroit.

ya I was amazed that Canes handled the Wings like that. Well done and props to em. But like many teams they have really dwindled after the first half (montreal, NYR etc)...they're still powerful contenders...I'm surprised that Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Nashville arent on this. The fact that Nashville is threatening the wings...that says a lot.
looking at it completely objectively, I'd say a healthy flyers is better than a healthy ottawa...but I bleed rangers red white and blue and that won't allow me to ever admit that. hah.

The Flyers played them the last game before their road trip...Dec 22 I think?

right, against ottawa...their next home game will be saturday with tonight being their last away. I think this is the longest road trip of any team in the league. They play away a lot. It's pretty even home and away for the remainder of the season.

I know, someone said we beat them early in the season, and i was explaining we beat them just 11 games ago.

Detroit made up for that by handling the Flyers even worse. And that Canes game is misleading as they really only dominated the first period, after that the red wings dictated the pace and play of the game. And had zetterberg not missed two open nets, it's a different game.
But how about the Wings owning the Flyers last night? excellent.
And Nashville, I think, is Detroit's biggest threat. because they just have so much team speed, even compared to detroit. The wings always seem to have problems with them.

you sir, are a friend of mine. you can eat at my table any night. nashville is the only real threat for the wings in the west. and ottawa will probably be the east coast rep. for as much realignment that happened before the season started, the wings still maintained their core and have so many experienced weapons. you can't put a price on playoff experience. even stevie-y is playing well since coming back. he had the most beautiful assist the other night. the only thing that stands in the wings way of an 11th stanley cup (yes, count those trophies flyers fans) is their goaltending situation. as long as legace doesn't go tim cheveldae on us, we'll be fine.

Legace will be fine. He should have been named outright number 1 before the season started. he's very, very solid goalie. You could have argued he should have been the starter over CuJo when he was in Detroit.
They have a nice mix of old guys and youth. but this team will only go as far as datsyuk and zetterberg. yzerman and shannahan will not be carrying this team in the regular season or playoffs.
I remember all the talk about possibly not putting up the extra mil. or two datsyuk was asking for. Now it's like, "we almost didn't pay this guy?"
But the true test isn't the goaltending in the playoffs, legace will be fine.
It'll be whether the young guys on the team (datsyuk and zetterberg) show up in the playoffs or not. Datsyuk has one career playoff goal. that's something that needs to change.

My vote goes to Philly. they have 3 KEY players missing in Keith Primeau (the captain), Eric Desjardins (an alternate captain, I believe) and Joni Pitkanen (one of their best D-men at the start of the season), and they also have Robert Esche, who will return and HOPEFULLY take a backup role to Antero Niittymaki
It's crazy, they're dominating without 2 stars and a rising star also. Strong AHL program, yes?

Detroit and Dallas buddy. It may not be the "west", but it's the Western Conference.
