Seeing as tomorrow is the first day of the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, I wondered what some of you thought about the match-ups. Predictions? Upsets? Thoughts? Please share in the replies.

1). TGIF

2). Hail To The Redskins! (No, I'm not a bandwagon jumper -- born and raised -- diehard)

3). My Thoughts (http://www.absolutepunk.net/journal.php?do=showentry&e=1178&enum=8)

I'm going for the Panthers, but it really depends which Panthers take the field. They either dominate or simply blow it. My hope is Seattle vs Carolina, (if they can beat the Bears, I think it's a done deal) but it'll probably the Colts.

All good things must come to an end -- Tom Brady isn't going to be undefeated in the post-season his whole career. I think if that streak comes to an end, then it very well could be against the Broncos this weekend. I think that team (Denver) is terribly underrated.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Redskins win, I just don't see it happening. But, yeah my score is probably just a little off, I took into consideration how the Skins played last week on offense, but yeah, I hope it will be closer than that, but eh, predictions are predictions lol.

Seattle 35, Redskins 7 (Sorry Jared, it's going to be insane in Seattle tomorrow and the 'Skins offense is DOA with Portis hurting)
Carolina 17, Chicago 14 (The Boring Bowl)
Patriots 31, Denver 24 (WE WIN! WE WIN!)
Pittsburgh 27, Indy 24 (It happens)

And I personally think the Broncos are somewhat overrated, they are just extremely unimpressive in all facets of the ball. They run the ball well, but not amazingly so. Same with passing, same with their defense. Their D gives up a ton of yards, being I think 17th in Yardage, but somehow came out 3rd in scoring defense? Sounds like a defense en route to a rude awakening.

honestly, i dont think it really matters who wins any game because the Pats will kill anyone. They have shown it for 2 years now. The team is built for the playoffs and how can you go against Tom Brady? I am not a fan of any team, but its easy to see they have it this year once again.

I love when people consider last weeks game for this weeks prediction. Ok, yes, the Redskins had a horrible offense last week. I agree. But, with the way Gibbs coaches his players, he won't let that happen again. I can guarantee that Gibbs has had that offensive line put through the ringer to ensure that they are doing what they are supposed to. He is even stepping up their defensive line. They had some poor mistakes, as well, just not as major as the offensive. Besides, if they play as they did last week, Gibbs will be making some needed changes for the lineup next season. My prediction is Redskins over Seatle, Colts over Pittsburgh, Bears over Carolina, and Broncos over Patriots.

Pulling for the 'Skins, but I just think the Seahawks will be too much.

I really feel good about Grossman and the Bears, for some reason. Any team that can win like they did all season with an anemic offense has a good shot to get streaky.

Whoever posted earlier about Denver being underrated, I wholly agree. They are definitely my dark horse pick.

Surprisingly, the only game I'm not positive about is the Colts. I don't know why that is.

yeah well while everyone on the skins D are commiting to alexander, hasselbeck will be connecting with jerremy stevens. and this is all contingent upon the skins putting up points on offense anyway. moss will get double coverage and they will adjust to stopping portis as well. chris cooley is your key to success this week.

Tom Brady had absolutely nobody around him all season and threw for more passing yards than any other QB. He is absolutely clutch when the situation calls for it. Dillon is looking a lot better and Denver just isn't that good. Brady will strap the team to his back like always and the Pats will beat the Broncos in a 7 point game. Indy will beat the Pats though because they are the best team the NFL has seen in a long time.

because the people in detroit are dumb enough to still support the lions. the owner (bill ford) is generating tons of $ from these fans. if ford is still making money, why would he spend any $ to make the organization any better? millen is going to continue to make dumb draft picks and hire shitty coaches. i bought my "fire millen" shirt, but apparently that wasnt enough...

Bears over Panthers - 42-35 (rex grossman is injured on first play of game after snap hits his hands too hard, Kyle orton steps in and regains purdue glory form, Shoot out follows...)

Hahaha, this just made me laugh.....I seriously hope this was a joke. First, both QB's are HORRIBLE, Orton won all those games because Jones can run and the Bears Defense was arguably the best in the league this year. Orton would go 7-13 for 60 yards, 0 TD's and an INT and win the game. Orton throws little 5-15 yd. passes and I don't know if I have ever seen him throw a deep ball. If anyone is going to throw deep, it's going to be Grossman. Against ATL, Grossman marched them down the field and threw some deep balls. The Bears pride themself on playing smashmouth football and in the playoffs, that is what it takes to win. All you need is a rock solid DEF and a back that can carry the ball 30-35 times and hang onto the ball. The only way the Bears are breaking the 20 point barrier is if the DEF scores.

alot of people forget what happened when the bears and the panthers played in week 10. chicago kicked their ass 13-3 after the team had been averaging 28 points per game...and we sacked delhomme 8 times. i dont think the panthers stand a chance.

as for the skins and the hawks game. theres one thing that makes the skins better than the hawks IMO. Joe Gibbs. dude is 17-5 in the playoffs for his career. and IMO is one of the top coaches in history. im in no way, shape, form or fashion a skins fan...but give credit where credits due...and joe gibbs is a big factor through out the playoffs.

Because Jared threw out that Gibbs at halftime stat, I'm going to throw this one out.
When facing a quarterback twice in the season, including playoffs, Belichick coached teams are 10-7 the first time, and 15-1 the second time, with the QB's passer rating literally dying, crashing by something like 30 points. Belichick is the king of game to game adjustments and studying tendencies. It's going to be fun, because Plummer is not as good as pundits make him seem.

Yet Belichick is 10-0 in the playoffs, and you have the Pats losing? Which is especially odd when you could easily make the argument that the Seahawks are better than the Broncos and the Pats are better than the Redskins (Excluding the Belichick/Gibbs argument).

I'd actually like to see the Pats make it back to the Superbowl. I hated the constant comparisons between Montana and Brady last year, but he's a damn good player and I like how the Pats truly play as a team. You can take out a star LB, RB, or CB and they function like nothing happened. CAR v.s. the Pats would be awesome to see again.

Can someone please explain why people are picking the Panthers over the bears? I don't get it. When they played earlier in the year, both teams were healthy, Steve Smith had a big game, and they still got dominated. The only difference I see this time around is that Grossman is at QB instead of Kyle 0rton, which is a plus for the bears. I expect Carolina to score more than 3 points, but don't you have to expect the bears offense to be even better...so I fail to see the logic in a Panthers win...and yes, I'm from Chicago, so maybe I've got the blinders on

alot of people forget what happened when the bears and the panthers played in week 10. chicago kicked their ass 13-3 after the team had been averaging 28 points per game...and we sacked delhomme 8 times. i dont think the panthers stand a chance.

as for the skins and the hawks game. theres one thing that makes the skins better than the hawks IMO. Joe Gibbs. dude is 17-5 in the playoffs for his career. and IMO is one of the top coaches in history. im in no way, shape, form or fashion a skins fan...but give credit where credits due...and joe gibbs is a big factor through out the playoffs.

Don't worry Caleb, you'll become a 'skins fan soon!

Here's another interesting tidbit:

The Skins committed just one turnover last week, making them 15-0 in the playoffs since 1970 when committing one or fewer turnovers.

We obviously have to not make stupid mistakes and hang onto the ball. We've been great at creating turnovers on defense too lately.

Yet Belichick is 10-0 in the playoffs, and you have the Pats losing? Which is especially odd when you could easily make the argument that the Seahawks are better than the Broncos and the Pats are better than the Redskins (Excluding the Belichick/Gibbs argument).

i just really want the patriots to lose haha. i think everyone, including the nfl wants a new champion. someone that is a marketable team. you know free marketing. you can only sell so much pats shit. if a team like the bears, or the skins, or the steelers one it'd be great for football.

the difference with joe gibbs is the fact of who is quarterbacks in the past have been...he won a super bowl with mark rypien and timmy smith! timmy fuckin smith. joe gibbs has done alot more...with alot less than bill.

yeah well while everyone on the skins D are commiting to alexander, hasselbeck will be connecting with jerremy stevens. and this is all contingent upon the skins putting up points on offense anyway. moss will get double coverage and they will adjust to stopping portis as well. chris cooley is your key to success this week.

cooley needs a big game haha, cause we all know thrash and taylor jacobs arent gonna help moss at all, and then of course portis needs to get 100 yds or close to that, and the defense needs to play solid, and we need some luck on our side, THEN we WILL win.

Seattle will win. They're well rested and healthy, and the Redskins, despite being "hot," were absolutely dreadful last week and escaped with a win. The Redskins are very banged up, and if they give Hasselbeck time in the pocket at all, it's going to be an easy victory. I expect a good matchup, but a relatively simple Seattle win.

The last game argument is ridiculous. That's like me saying after we manhandled the Cowboys that we'd play every opponet like that in the weeks to follow. This is why I love football, though; anything can happen from one game to the next. Nothing (unless a team is terribly bad) stays the same week-to-week, especially in the Playoffs.

oh god, this thread has idiocy written all over it, but:

seahawks over redskins 24-10. the seahawks are fuckin tough at home, the skins offense just isn't that good, brunell is one big hit from michael boulware away from a patrick ramsey appearance. i know everyone from washington is real excited about last week's win and the skins actually being in the playoffs, but wait for jason campbell to be your quarterback before you can make it to the super bowl or nfc championship.

patriots over broncos 20-17. the broncos don't scare me. there's nothing about that broncos team that puts fear into my heart except for their offensive line. but the pats have one of the best run defenses/front sevens in the league, so i really don't see tatum bell and mike anderson running over them. which brings me to my next point, there isn't a single quality of either of those backs that scares me. jake plummer is jake plummer and will always be jake plummer. the pats secondary isn't as bad as people make them out to me, ellis hobbs is a great rookie cornerback and asante samuel and eugene wilson are great playmakers/big hit guys.

bears over panthers 10-3. defense baby. rex grossman will do just enough to not throw the game away. carolina have been an up and down team all year and i see them being down this week.

and finally...

steelers over colts 24-17. the colts are going to be extremely rusty. their coach, their starters, everyone. they haven't played a "normal" game since week 15 against the chargers and that's going to hurt a lot. the steelers are gonna be tough and after blowing the chance to go 19-0, i really dont see this being the colts year.

you cant say the skins will have the same offensive performance as they did last week, Seattles D is no where near as good as the bucs...

The problem with Seattle is that they play such a lack schedual that they arent ready for their playoff matchups, every year is the same, seattle is considered one of the best but they lose in the first or second round, they will never be an NFC championship contender unless they get out of the nfc west... they arent battle tested

skins have been in a playoff mode for well over a month now, and they will continue on the same path they have until they reach the super bowl, the only team i see stopping them is the panthers.

LOL the Bears have an amazing DEF but they play in the weakest division in football. Playing MN, GB, DET twice this year pads any DEF stats....they are good, but they haven't been tested by a team that can and AND pass as well as SEA and Indy. seattle gives up less points per game than tampa b/c they have an easier schedual

seattle played, jax(they lost this one) atl, cardnials, skins (which they lost) rams, texans, cowboys cards again, rams again, niners, giants, eagles (post to). niners, titans, colts(they basically played the colts pratice squad) and GB(which they lost!)

that has to be one of the easiest scheduals in the league which means they wont be ready for the skins, remember, gibs won super bowls with 3 different QBs, one being Mark Rippen, if he can win with rippen he can win with either brunell or ramsey

they can double moss all they want, thrash will come out and catch a few balls and cooley will sneak in and get a few big plays as well.

its going to be a hard game but i see the skins coming out on top!

My goodness, this thread is absolutely SEEPED in outrageous comments but here i go:

Broncos 28 Patriots 24 - I think the Patriots beat up on a Jaguars team last week that made a big mistake letting Byron Leftwich run the offense after a month of inactivity. The defense was on their heels the whole game. Broncos will take this one with 150 yards from Jake, 1 TD 1 INT but 200 yards rushing from Bell and Anderson. Dillon will play awful, Brady will have to throw the ball 40 times and Champ Bailey will make a big play.

Bears 16 Carolina 10 - A Similar performance to the regular season matchup. The defense on both teams will be excellent, Rex Grossman connects with Mushin Muhammad for a score and the running game combined with a few key passes gets the Bears a couple field Goals. Panthers get an early drive with Steve Smith but are held in check the rest of the game. Foster has 65 yards on 20 carries.

Colts 31 Steelers 24 - A solid football game. Pittsburg comes out strong forcing a 17-10 halftime score. Second half Colts come alive (shake off whatever rust is there from being inactive for a month) and pound the ball in with James and the passing attack. Steelers lose focus in the running game, forcing Ben to try and win the game with his arm. James has 110 yards Peyton throws for 250.

Seahawks 27 Redskins 17 - My 'Hawks dominate offensively. A couple big plays are given up by the Seahawks D to Santana Moss who goes for 150 yards receiving, but Mark Brunell throws an INT and the Seahawks offense racks up 350 yards. 150 on the ground, 200 in the air. Portis stumbles for only 70 yards against the Seahawks tough D. Hasselbeck is efficient 17-20 for 200, 2 TDs.

The only team(s) the Seahawks "dominated" this year were:

Houston Texans
Arizona Cardinals
Philadelphia Eagles
San Francisco 49ers

I think any fan of football knows what kinda teams those were this season. All of their other games have been pretty close and far from "dominating" on either side of the ball. I'm not saying they're a bad team, but they're not the Colts on offense or the Bears on defense. None of the teams they'll meet or play in the playoffs are going to be the equivalent to the teams they owned in the regular season.

dude, come on, if you've ever watched washington you know patrick ramsey is far from solid.

and yeah, matt hasselbeck threw an interception in a playoff game. big deal. wanna argue that an nfc quarterback has been better than him this year? please try.

mark brunell is a shell of who he was from 96-2002, dont argue he's having one of his best seasons. remember when he could um, move? yes that's sometimes useful for a quarterback.

Um, Brunell has been scrambling pretty effectively. No, he's not what he once was, but he has been getting out of the pocket and making some big plays, even running for 1st downs himself. And in regards to Ramsey, that kid showed a lot of potential. You can't fault him for the inconsistency of who his head coach was and a subpar roster throughout the years.
