I've always liked the idea of tattoos in tribute to your favorite band/song/lyric. Even though I am aware most people think is stupid to get something permanent that is music related, go ahead and post pics or explanations of your music related tattoos or of ones you have seen.

its not just lyrics, they have a special meaning to me and JEW is one of my all time favorite bands so it's not like i'm just going to forget them in a few years. it took me a long time to think about getting the lyrics tattooed on me so its not like i just got it done randomly one night. but like you said, if it means so much to you now, then its going to still going to mean a lot down the road.

I've contemplated getting a JEW tattoo for a couple of years now. It would either be the lyrics "Can you still feel the butterflies?" written inside of a butterfly, or the lyrics "I am but one small instrument" written around a music note. Both lyrics are from songs with significant meaning to me and I think I would always appreciate them greatly.

And I agree with your point. When I was younger I wanted a butterfly tattoo, yes, very very cliche. I didn't want it because it was cute or pretty. I wanted it for what it meant to me. Fragile/Delicate/the whole breaking from the cocoon. Sure even that sounds a bit of a cliche, yet I still love them for what they are. ah well.

Since then I've always been looking for a "song" to help me through the hard days and the closest thing I found until last September was Simple Man by Skynyrd lol. Anyways, I'd always been a huge Strike Anywhere fan but didn't give Iron Front the proper lovin' until about a week before September 12th of last year. First Will and Testament came on and the opening line was "Every September I always remember, sing to your headstone, and hear you sing back" and it hit me like a brick wall all the way til the last note. It sounds cliche but that song hit me so hard, one of the most beautiful punk songs I've ever heard. Basically I listened to it on repeat for 4 days, and then decided that I wanted my first tattoo to honor my mother, I wanted it to be related to that song, and I wanted it on the 7th anniversary of her passing. And I got this:

Her own name was Dawn, which is why I made the flower an orange/yellow/red mix, like a dawning sun, and her initials (D.E.R.) are on the base of the flower. I know it's not grammatically correct but I wanted to get the lyrics the way they were sang. And I got it on the back of my neck to represent that her memory is always in the back of my mind.

I know, tl;dr, but I'm pretty proud at the thought I put into it. No regrets whatsoever on getting it, I think it's a great tribute.

You would probably still have to wear long sleeves if you get it on the inside of your bicep. Unless you have pretty baggy sleeves chances are it'd still show. Just a thought.

Well if I get a job at the school I want to work at, you have to wear a shirt and tie anyway, but most of the male teachers tend to role their sleeves up to the elbows, which is what I do most of the time already.

I know, but I figure it'd be easy to roll up my sleeves or whatever when authority figures who could punish me weren't around. Maybe the upper half of my forearm would be a good place to easily conceal/expose a tattoo. Whatever I get, it'll be small. I have a while to think about it anyway.

Listening to this album always brings back memories of struggle and overcoming it. I view tattoos as souvenirs of different parts of your life, and even if the taste in tattoos changes, the meaning won't.

My first and only tattoo at the moment. Its the album cover for Stick to Your Guns' latest cd. Their music has always helped me through alot, and this tattoo means so much to me, because my brother Dan who died of a drug overdose a month ago took me to get it. It has so many meanings behind it now, their music got me through alot, Dan took me to get it, and it reminds me to never give up hope. :)

In case it's hard to tell, it's a biplane that is crashing/on fire with a banner behind it that says "One cannot stop the wind from blowing nor refuse the falling rain." from the La Dispute song. Definitely a long story behind this one, means a lot to me though. This is from when I first got it over this past summer. I still need to get the plane shaded in, finally have enough money for it.

I'm getting the astronaut from Deja Entendu by Brand New on my left shoulder in about a month.
They've been my favorite band for almost 6 years now, and that's the album that made me decide to start writing my own music.
I almost don't believe this comment. I have an appointment at my tattoo place five hours south on February 19 to get that astronaut on my left arm with the phrase "Fight Off Your Demons" and a so-far-undecided bottom part....either some mayhem shit going on kind of looking like waves/fire with the colors on the cover, or the opening lyrics to "It's Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention..."

Just thought it was weird as all hell that we're getting the same thing at the same time, what the heck.

Oh, while I'm here. I have an anchor with "I Refuse to Sink" on a scroll around it on my upper right arm. Yeah, it's been done before, blah blah, Wonder Years, meaningful, blah. I love it. I have the word Orange tattooed in blue ink on my wrist, not music related, I go to UF, that's what that's for.

I have a lot of other ideas to get in the near future...the Rise Against logo sans band name somewhere on my leg, I want the Star Wars Rebel emblem on my arm, "Tramps Like Us We Were Born to Run" on arms or ribs, Something to Write Home About album art although that's been done a shit ton of times, I wanted a C3PO/R2D2 one but I don't know if I have the guts for it.

Yeah, I have a lot of ideas, remains to be seen how many of those will pan out.

i'm itching to get at least my first tat which will be music related now that i'm 18 but i'm waiting a little while. i want the ever cliche yet it sums up my relationship with music eighth note with a heart. later i want the quote "music says what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest. heals the heart, and makes it whole. flows from heaven to the soul." and maybe eventually part of the score from one of my favorite pieces and an anberlin lyric. will never grow out of any of that seeing as music is already my entire life and i've been playing piano since my earliest memories.

Same goes with people who have "stay 18 forever" on them - sure it represents staying young and appeciating youth and whatnot, but still. I go by what my mother told my younger sister when she wanted to dye her hair pink when she was 14: "Wait one year and if you still want to do it, I'll let you." Wait until you're 19 and still see if you want a tattoo about being 18. 'stay eighteen forever' tatted on the back of my neck, and eventually grew out of it]

I've wanted a music-related tattoo for a while now - but I just can't think of something I'm 100% sure I'll want on me for the rest of my life. Lately I've really been thinking about getting the outline of the leaf from The Early November's acoustic EP, probably on the small of my ankle or the inside of my wrist. I also do want a simple lyric tattoo somewhere, I just haven't found the perfect lyric or perfect placement yet.
