My rec: For anyone in NC. Marvel at how we survived Friday the 13th, full moon, and a tornado warning in January. And listen to Farewell. I agree with Gabe on the Just Surrender thing. Im wondering if I might ever get that cd out of my player in my car.

i remember someone saying earlier this week to find Just Surrenders old EP under A Second Chance, i second that motion as i used to love ASC.

and i was all like, "let's listen to bands from Michigan!" this week.

so-- Heirs (http://myspace.com/heirs), Every Avenue (http://myspace.com/everyavenue), and Tally Hall (http://myspace.com/tallyhallcom). ya'll definitely need to get on those.

++ listen to Northstar's "Rigged and Ready" and listen for the Boys Will Be Boys riff (Time To Dance, P!atd). at like 4:30 in the song... i just made a random playlist happening to be in the "N" section of my winamp and was like WTF.
(please no conspiracy theories :X )

Elliott Smith (www.elliottsmith.com) - Everyone needs to own Either/Or.

Free Diamonds (http://www.freediamonds.co.uk/) - Sweet Deep Elm Records band.

The Fire Theft (http://www.thefiretheft.com/) - Fronted by Former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman Jeremy Enigk. Mellow goodness.

American Analog Set (http://www.amanset.com/) - I picked up Set Free a month or so ago and fell in love with the band. More mellow melodic goodness.

Thrice (http://www6.islandrecords.com/thrice/index.php) - no introduction needed for these guys, but for anyone who may have just got into them following Vheissu, make sure you add to your cd collection at some point what I consider their best album, The Illusion of Safety, to date. It's jsut soooo damn good. No more to say. Go pick it up and rock out.

I recommend:

Music
K.D. Lang Hymns of the 49th parallel
I have to thank my wonderful girlfriend for introducing me to this cd and K.D. Lang. It has her wonderful voice covering a lot of great older artists (think Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell)

New Pornographers Twin Cinema
Get this one already. I know it took me long to. It's pretty much catchy pop done right.

DJ Shadow Entroducing
Go spin this right now if you have it and get it if you don't. I hadn't put it on in forever, but it just felt right today.

The Shins anything
The Shins will be releasing one of my most anticipated cd's of this year and there's a new (live version) song floating out there. Find it (http://youaintnopicasso.blogspot.com/).

Unicorns Who Will Cut...
This pop band broke up. Go listen to some of the ex members new band, The Islands. They have an album dropping in January.

Movies
Leon: The Professional (The Deluxe Edition) You've seen this one by now, right? Please tell me you have.

Memoirs of a Geisha Saw this last week and really enjoyed the story, but to mention that the visuals are beautiful.

What I've rented for this weekend:
Broken Flowers
Love Me If You Dare I remember seeing a preview for this French movie a year or two ago on a DVD so I picked it up when I saw my ghetto Blockbuster (yes, I mean that seriously. check my 'Location') actually had it.
Leave thoughts on either of these if you've seen them.

while in europe (and flying for 10 hours) i listened to a lot of:
1) damien rice "o"
2) coldplay "parachutes"
3) death cab for cutie "we have the facts and we're voting yes"
4) brand new "deja"
5) modest mouse "the moon and antarctica"
6) my morning jacket "z"

and a weird twist
7) the starting line "say it like you mean it"

i recommend going to athens (greece) and istanbul (turkey), too. amazing places. oh yeah, get on a sugar high by eating tons of baklava, seriously great shit.

death cab for cutie - i know everyone and their mom knows about them, but listen to their older stuff if you haven't yet. more of an indie-rock feel.
cat power - her music never goes out of style. your parents will love her.
colin meloy - i'm seeing him on the 25th. who do you think he's covering?
modest mouse - like death cab, listen to their old stuff. sooo much better than "good news."

i also recommend that you get better refs for the patriots/broncos game. (pass interference, wha?)

That EP he's releasing is tour only isn't it? Anyone out there have a tracklisting or better yet the EP itself since I won't be at any of the shows?

If you're second guessing buying anything and like electro-indie, save your money and pick up Electric President's (Label: Morr Music) album on the 24th. Musically it's Death Cab meets The Postal Service, vocally think similar to The American Analog Set's Andrew Kenny. And yeah, I recommended them almost 2 months ago. :)

Wayne dropped the ball? I don't remember him dropping the ball, but if you're talking about that endzone pass to him, I'd imagine it's hard to catch a ball with someone's helmet in your chest, hand in your face, and an out of bounds line to stay off of.
