I was fortunate enough to have a number of members from our General Forum (http://www.absolutepunk.net/forumdisplay.php?f=2) join me for recs this week:
Rick's Recommendations:
I've been in a real chill mood this week..
American Football (https://www.polyvinylrecords.com/bands/band_info.asp?bandID=17) - Lots of people have very high praise for their self titled album, but don't sleep on their EP. "Five Silent Miles" is a beautiful song.
Explosions In The Sky (http://www.myspace.com/texasband) - This is simply for the people who haven't looked into EITS yet. Their music is epic.
Eluvium (http://www.eluvium.net) - Incredible ambient stuff.
-------------
Drew's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/member.php?u=24377) Recommendations:
65daysofstatic (http://www.myspace.com/11488230) - Instrumental electronic math rock band. Crazy, tweaky shit.
The Weakerthans (http://www.myspace.com/theweakerthans) - Catchy as hell folk rock with really, really good lyrics.
-------------
Kevin's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/member.php?u=47218) Recommendations:
The Rocket Summer (http://www.purevolume.com/therocketsummer). Everyone should have heard of this band before, and this is a friendly reminder to listen to it some more. Catchy piano and guitar-driven rock.
-------------
Mark's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/member.php?u=19311) Recommendations:
Good Clean Fun (http://www.myspace.com/goodcleanfun)- The kings of posi are back, and as good as ever.
--------------
Scott's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/member.php?u=11407) Recommendations:
Nas (http://www.stillmatic.com/) - Stillmatic - One of the more unappreciated rap records of our time. Thank Jay Z for igniting this forgotten gem.
Normal Like You (http://www.purevolume.com/normallikeyou) - The Worst of Many Flaws - Sign this band, please. A very sincere, catchy rock record.
---------------
Christine's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/member.php?u=46584) Recommendations:
Audrye Sessions (http://www.myspace.com/audryesessions) : Indie rock, beautiful and accompanied by a touch of elegance from the violin.
Cordalene (http://myspace.com/cordalene): Pop rock, catchy songs with clever lyrics. I listened to them for half my summer. Like The Shins but more subtle.
---------------
Radioodity's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/member.php?u=16299) Recommendations:
http://www.mewsite.com
Mew and the glass handed kites - Shockingly, or maybe not so shockingly this album is blowing up across seas. Mew is collecting tons of awards including MTVEurope's best Danish artist of the year. The melodies/harmonic construction are brilliant and far more advanced than any other efforts. The music transcends international boundries, even though it has not seen one drop of love in the United States. Check it out.
---------------
I also have two sports-related recommendations:
-Kick back and enjoy Colts/Steelers tomorrow, it should be good.
-Look into MVP NCAA Baseball 2006 next week, EA Sports make top-notch baseball video games.
