I asked Brian Sonenstein, guitarist for Adrastos (http://www.myspace.com/adrastos) to join me this week for recs. He's suggested some great stuff to me, and I figured our readers would enjoy them too.

Here are my recs:
Anathallo (http://www.myspace.com/anathallo) - I'm not always the biggest fan of bands with Christian leanings because sometimes that gets in the way of the music, but Anathallo is drop-dead amazing. They could be members of David Koresh's cult and still make gorgeous music. Their EP Luminous Luminescence In The Atlas Position from 2001 is worth a listen from every single reader on here.

Yellowcard (http://www.myspace.com/yellowcard) - Every day that passes in which I listen to their new album, Lights and Sounds, I further realize how great Ocean Avenue was. You owe it to yourself to get that album out of mothballs and give it a few spins.

Southcott (http://www.myspace.com/southcott) - I haven't heard their last release, but I have the new album, Flee the Scene, and it's very good. It's straight-up rock, but at times it becomes complex and risky enough to make this album worth buying in early February when it releases. Check them out on Myspace and Purevolume to hold you over.

Here's what Brian had to say:

So pretty much every day, I bother Tony with bands i think he should pay attention to. I guess he got fed up with me and let me have my own list of recs. So here you go!

The Boneless Children Foundation (http://www.myspace.com/bonelesschildren) - Really unique band here, and the lyrics are sheer poetry. A must for the more eccentric listeners.

Prosperity Wallet (http://www.myspace.com/prosperitywallet) - Great progressive/hardcore band. Their lyrics aren't the best, but they sound amazing.

Surrounded By Lions (http://www.purevolume.com/surroundedbylions) - Some really good feel-good music. Really catchy stuff and a free album to download.

Joanna Newsom (http://www.myspace.com/joannanewsom) - This girl has the most incredible voice and plays the harp beautifully. Listen to "Book of Right-On".

Damiera (http://www.purevolume.com/damiera) - I'm sure you've been getting an earful about these guys, but they really are incredible. A must for progressive lovers.

So there you have it. Hope you enjoy it-- especially those of you craving something fresh and new.
Love, Brian

As I said last week, I'm going to ask you readers to contribute. If you think I should be listening to something (either as a rec or for a review), drop me an e-mail with the pertinent info and at least one outlet to sample the music (Myspace preferred). Please include your AP username in the e-mail somewhere so that I can give you credit if I use it.

On a similar note, if you would like to guest one week with recommendations and are either a forum member or band member, please e-mail me and we'll set it up.

Have a great week!

I third the Joanna Newsom recommendation, of course.
