Is there really a cotton crush down in the southern states?
And more importantly, what the hell's a cotton crush anyway?

I will soon be interviewing Kevin Devine (http://www.purevolume.com/kevindevine). Please post in the comments any questions for Kevin that you would like to see asked.
Reminder: Kevin has recently signed to Capitol, and is releasing a new record this year.
is his band really going to be called kevin devine and the goddamn band. or is that just a temporarty tentative title. also what is his relationship with jesse lacey and does he think they will ever collaborate again in the future.
oh, and whats in the cards for the future, working on a new cd, or possibly a nation wide tour?

ask him if he remembers meeting me in hollywood when i said that he means to me what elliott smith meant to him.
you dont really have to ask that, but DO ask if the legion of fans he is accumulating is making him more self-conscious about his upcoming major label release.
ask him if with his increasing success, he finds more and more of an audience that doesn't really understand the social and political commentary in his lyrics, but rather more of an audience that just thinks he's cute.
ask him if capitol will hook him up with a gig in a late night show - also, if capitol will be funding a video for one of the songs on split the country, or if all efforts are going to go straight into a new record
TELL him that "you are the daybreak" is just about the best lovesong i've EVER heard in my life

Will the (fucking awesome) remix of Buried By The Buzz be coming out on an EP or on a compilation of any sort?

The difference between his albums is eminent almost like a Connor Oberst flip in albums, not in signing style but in the style of music (production, raw). My question is, Will the new cd be more produced and clean as Split the country..or will it have more of a raw feeling to it. What is the direction? do you have one, or are you just writing an amount of songs then just finding out from there.
2. WHat have you been listening to as of late? Do you have an ipod?Cd PLayer? Tape Deck? A Track?

ask if he and miracle of 86 are OFFICIALLY done - if anyone from the band will be contributing to the new album in any way, by any chance
ask if theres a chance of him playing coachella this summer, or if he'll play bamboozle
does he prefer playing with the goddamn band, or having solo performances
he always performs a couple of cover songs live - any plans to record any of these? while on that subject, has he been asked to contribute to a soundtrack or compilation of any sort?
i know he was still going to school up until recently - did he receive a degree? if so, in what field, and while on that subject as well, what would he do for a living if he did not play music.
with so many artists on major labels that get dropped and given up on after being burned out by just one or two records, is he worried about this possibility?

What's his favorite song to play live?
Would he ever do an album of full band songs and an album of solo songs?
Are his lyrics fictional or experience-based?
What kind of video would he like to make? Any ideas for concepts?
Speaking of concepts, would he ever do a concept album?
Are there any plans to add more instrumentation on the new album? (banjo, pedal steel, etc)
Kevin Devine is on the verge of brilliance, and I know this album will be a masterpiece. Looking forward to the interview!

will he ever release anything he recorded at the benefit show for Nick Lamapgna in Long Island this summer, to contribute to Nick, Like straylight run siad they would do with the live dvd and cd (which was supposed to come out in november...) like a dvd of the show or cd or anything, cause it was honestly amazing.
also if he plans on continueing to play shows at small little venues (like the 3 hes doing this week) now that hes signed to capitol, or will we see a huge blowup and never see him in anything less than a stadium setting (taking back sunday...?)
Tour plans? I saw this guy with the Rocket summer and it was amazing. Cant wait to see him, even better with new stuff.

Wow, everyone has basically everyone has said everything that I was going to ask.
I guess I'll repeat the one I would look forward to an answer to most...
Is the next album going to have more full band instruements, and more produced etc., or will it be more "raw" as the previous person that asked this put it.

This is not so much a question, just a heads up to Kevin Devine fans. Check out this site I found a couple of years ago:

(http://nightstand.org/weekend/clocks.html)It's a great fan site, and I think I've seen some of these questions answered in past interviews on the site.

sweet.
ask him if he's doing a full US tour any time soon.
ask why he trashed midtown (heath and gabe) and the get up kids in the pavement cover that miracle of 86 did
I really like this question, because I think that Pavement was taking shots at the Smashing Pumpkins and the Stone Temple Pilots in the original, but I always kind of assumed that Miracle of 86 put those bands in there because they were buddies and it was kind of an inside joke.

this can be molded into a question, but it just needs to be said...
it's a damn shame that kevin devine cannot seem to escape beyond jesse lacey/brand new's shadow. he is an extremely talented musician, but everyone seems to think he's like jesse's little minion.
for example, in a myspace bulletin, kevin put some music he's currently been listening to. one of the things was "the demos," and everyone in the brand new livejournal community was speculating whether he was trying to be secretive about the brand new demos. believe it or not, kevin (and hundreds of other bands) are writing new music, and it sucks that kevin's talent is overshadowed by his relationship with jesse lacey. i'm sure he's sick of hearing of it, because i know i am.
kevin is one of the best guys in music, as well as the general population. he deserves so much more credit indepent of this brand new bullshit.

Oh, and if he was so anxious to step out of Jesse's shadow, maybe he wouldn't have him sing backing vocals, yeah?

Wow. Slow down there, big fella. Overreact much?
People who listen to his music appreciate him. You can't expect maroons on a LJ community about Brand New, not a Kevin Devine community mind you, to care much about Kevin Devine.
Jesus Christ, they're just speculating, as well. That has absolutely nothing to do with these people discrediting Kevin Devine in any way.

i know that people that listen to kevin truly do appreciate him. but as i (and you) were trying to get across, many brand new fans don't take kevin as kevin, they take him as kevin - the guy that jesse lacey is friends with and did background vocals for.
i'm not saying kevin should cut off ties or collaborations with jesse lacey, i just don't like it that, whenever kevin is mentioned, people automatically divert their attention to brand new. i don't think there's anything wrong with me feeling that way...

I think you're creating something out of nothing, he would'nt have jesse play with the goddam band or sing back-up vocals if he wanted to "get out of his shadow". I have never heard anyone say that before.
Or mabye kevin can steal jesse's girlfriend and they can write songs about it.
