View Full Version : To all my fellow Floridians (Mosquitos)

As any Floridians know, and some of you may have heard, Florida recently had over 30 inches of rainfall in almost two weeks. It was insane. It also left many little lakes of stagnant water all over Florida. The past two days, it has been upwards of 90 degrees and humid.

Put all this together and what do you get?

Mosquito season! Yay! I am covered in mosquito bites from a combination of being outdoors last night and taking a walk today. I feel like someone covered me in itching power, and I look like a drug addict from all the scratching. If my posts die off real soon...the malaria got me.

Any other Floridians encountering these pesky little bastards?

ahhhh glad i wont be back home in FL until august. hopefully by then all those bastards will be gone.

i remember going camping once in chassahowitzka river, and i had so many bites when i got home i had to take an oatmeal bath. ahhhh soothe the burn.

mosquitoes are evil. Here's what you should do to keep them from attacking you. Take a B-complex vitamin daily - seriously, mosquitoes will be completely turned off by you. They're not a fan of the taste of the B vitamins for some reason.

my other suggestion would be to get the hell out of Florida. Florida is one of the shittiest places on earth and it would be a blessing for the whole state to go under water and disappear.

seriously? here in germany, florida is known as a great sunny place. it's like one of the top locations to go for retirement/winter stay or just vacation

yeah, i'm not sure why, but Germans have always had a hard-on for Florida. I have a feeling the tourism board of Florida has had a hand in promoting the hell out of the state to foreigners. There are tons of way better places in the US to travel/visit/retire though, depending on what you're looking for.

well, we have two (sort of 3, but screw the South) massive coasts bordering on the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. I personally would suggest taking a trip up to the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon, etc.) and then you can pretty easily go to San Francisco and Los Angeles since you're already on that side of the country. There is no humidity out there, it's absolutely beautiful, and you can go surfing and sailing or hiking quite easily. Also, from the Pacific Northwest you have the ability to go to Canada and check out British Columbia (and smoke some really amazing weed while you're there).

Or if you want to stay on the East Coast, check out North Carolina or Maryland, both have great coastal areas and aren't completely touristy, depending on which beach you go to.

all my friends here in germany think disneyland and beaches when i say i live in florida. what they dont know about is all the old people who take over 6 months a year, shitty drivers, humidity, rednecks, and zero culture, unless you are spanish.

this gal knows her stuff. i would suggest the pacific northwest. And canada is great, I lived in BC for some time and always go back. good herb, great people, scenery, and overall funnnnn. plus, if you want a little more warmth, head down to cali.

i also agree about east coast. outer banks in north carolina is a great spot (i went there to go surfing), and the general east coast of the US is pretty cool.

to sum it up, florida is only good for layin on the beach, and eating cuban sandwiches.

thanks a lot, I'll think about this in a few years. except for the weed part coz i'm not really into drugs, haha.

I might ask you again one day, if I can't find my note :-)

edit: and thanks to you, too, alf ;-)

I hate mosquitoes. I have a marsh in my backyard so I don't even bother going out there anymore.

Yep, it was sunny as heck outside today, not even dark yet, and I got attacked on my left leg. Ugh, probably my least favourite part about Florida.

The only time I'm ever in Florida is in the summer.

Alaskan mosquitos are huge, seriously theyre just about as big as mosquito eaters. But I dont have any bites yet which is good.

Neither am I. I go to Florida like every summer, and while the mosquitos do suck, it's a pretty cool place. I was actually born in Gainseville and lived there for a few years, it was cool.

hahaha, all of you who think FL rocks are from there in some way, therefore it stands to reason that you've each been brainwashed into thinking it's a good place. The Florida PR campaign goes deep!

unfortunately, it's not. :-d

Guess I moved away from Florida just in time. All of that rain came through like 4 days after I moved.
