Has anyone ever traveled over seas (by themselves) before?

I think I would like to get away and explore/do the typical soul searching thing. I have about a week or so in Aug and I figured I should try to take advantage of it. The only place I've been to outside the US was israel, so I was thinking of going somewhere other than there.

Where did you go? Did you go with a tour?

I just figured I would ask.

I have been thinking about doing the exact same thing.

Come to Switzerland, you'll never want to go back ;)
hmm but if I could go anywhere for a week I'd go to Australia, I love that place so much.

I've never been with a tour so I can't help you there.

I'm close to the Geneva area. It's just a gorgeous country, everywhere you go it's just beautiful. You can visit all the attractions if you're into that: Lake geneva/the jet d'eau (massive fountain), main cathedral, several museums etc. Take a boat trip around the lake which is nice.
You can go up the mountains, check out the views, paraglide(spelling?)etc.
Bern and Zurich are nice places too but I don't know much of what you can do there.

Swiss cheese and chocolate, what more do you want ;)

If you ask my brother (PeeDster) I'm sure he can fill you in on a lot more.

Thats funny you mention it, because I do have an old friend/college roommate who lives in Switzerland. But I don't know what she's doing/if she is able to be around.

Nice, do you know where abouts? I'd offer for you to come stay with my family, but I have no idea when I go back this summer and if we will have the space (as I have a sister and a brother too). Switzerland isn't a cheap place so it's a plus if you could stay with someone you know.

I would never do that alone, I wouldn't even leave the state alone.

Why go by yourself? Great experiences are even better when you experience them with friends/family.

You lean a lot about yourself and your forced to break out of your shell and meet new people while traveling. Now that makes for great experiences.

First time I left the country by myself was at age 17. I went to visit a friend in Germany. Since then I've been addicted to traveling and have been to:

Mexico
Canada
France
Spain
Italy
Germany
Luxembourg
Switzerland
Belgium
Finland
Netherlands
New Zeland
Australia
Fiji
China
Japan
S. Korea
Chile
Peru
Costa Rica
Argentina

I'm planning a trip to Thailand in August.

Actually that makes a lot of sense, not sure if I would do that though.

Thats what traveling is all about. I have friends from all over the world now. People who stay in hostels are in the same boat as you are.

you shouldn't think like that, coz the evil guys out there can sense that.

yeah great, what i meant was, ofc, that I've never seen any japanese food. here in germany there's just chinese or asian, which is chinese as well...

which do you prefer?

Well sort of. I came to London by myself, but, quickly made friends and traveled with them. Aside from London, I've been to Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam and Madrid and Seville. In the past I've been to Barcelona. If you stay at hostels, traveling by yourself isn't such a big deal, because you around bound to meet people.

If you are looking to travel for only a week, I would say head to spain. It has just the right amount of cities and is beatiful in the summer. Great for the amount of time you have.
