I'll start this off the right way Favorite Top Gear moment if you have never seen the show its on BBC America.

best moment for me is when they travel to america and paint thier cars with slogans like country wester sucks and they are in the deep south. Then they get attacked by hicks at a gas station.

Top Gear is one of my favourite shows, and I'm not that big of a car fan.

New series starts in the UK at the end of the month, I believe.

This is why Top Gear is so great. It just has an appeal to everyone, regardless of whether they are a car nerd or not.

Yeah, I enjoy driving my car (a '98 Ford Fiesta), but to be honest, usual supercar and blah blah about bhp and stuff bores the shit out of me. Yet TG is awesome enough to make me care.

This show is so sick. And what a coincidence that I just saw it for the first time LAST week. So far my favorite episode is when they all had to drive 750 miles on one tank of gas.

I don't know their names, but I love how the main guy drives the whole way expecting to lose - has the AC on, picks the least fuel efficient car, and actually MAKES it.

Loved the ending this week, really worked them finally doing something serious with what looks a wonderful car. The show is just brilliantly, brilliantly shot. This weeks episode was hilarious, the ad part was genius. Good series.

However, I have limited sympathy with the show always ragging on the environment, especially seeing as nature plays such a big part in the footage of the cars.

So i watched the US version (on History) with my gf tonight (she has watched a handful of top gear uk eps with me before and loves it)

we were talking in the car about what didnt work. I think it has alot to do with the hosts not developing any personality. They all were just sitting in the cars talking (like they were reading from a page) As my gf put it
"The white haired guy (she means clarkson) is always yelling on top gear. These guys kept getting drown out by the engines" right after this i yelled POOOOWWERRRR (in my toyota corolla)

i will give it a couple more episodes for them to get comfortable but someone needs to develop some personality and get into the cars

Of Purest Fire
11/29/10, 05:35 AM
Yeah the hosts are all pretty uncharismatic, also the standing mile challenge was just dumb.
Three completely different drivers with different driving skill levels. Also, no GPS to validate speeds (Lamborghini speedos are know to be erroneous).

I still need to watch the newest episode.

Zkrp
11/30/10, 08:51 AM
The Uk version is better. The problem is you can never compare it to the UK version because the American version will never be that good. I think it has alot of potential putting an american twist on Top Gear would be awsome the problem I see right now is they need to develop camera work thats step 1 and two they need to get these hosts to just be who they are and stop acting like the camera is their it feels so scripted. I want this show to work becasue it just means their is more top gear to go around.

Also if your looking for episodes go here for torrents finalgear.com

The Stig is Ben Collins the whole thing started when Ben Collins wanted to write a book about being the Stig knowing this would ruin the secret BBC decided a new Stig was in order their is alot of fuss about it being Shabien Shmitz(I'm sure thats spelled wrong). I personally think the book will be a great read I know he ruined one of my favorite parts of the show but think of how awesome that book will be. So yea I hate the guy for spoiling it but I love that he is writing the book and I will be buying it. Not to mention the fact they have replaced the Stig before(I.E black Stig) so i guess we just have a new mystery to solve and conspire about.

I've just seen the first episode of the US version and it is not nearly as good as the british.
The thing which i love about the "original" TOp Gear is that it is not just a show about cars or about some challenges involving cars.
The relationship between Richard, Jeremy and James is amazing and their american collegues just don't have that "thing". It's just another Car show with boring challenges.

Yeah, it's why I don't watch the show in general, only seek out the specials. It would annoy me and become very stale, as you said. The part in the Bolivia special when Clarkson is on the Road of Death and practically driving off the edge to get past another car is genuinely so so tense.

That might be the best method to watch the show, haha. Yeah, the Road of Death bits were tense. I've always wondered what sort of safeguards they have for the cast and crew for some of the more treacherous things they go through. Like the scenes in the Polar where Jeremy and May go over the thin ice.

If anybody is a fan of the specials, particularly the Middle East and Vietnam ones, you should check out The Long Way Round which is a documentary show featuring Ewan McGregor and his best friend Charlie Boorman riding around the world from London to New York (the long way) on motorbikes. It's absolutely fantastic.

It's absolutely fantastic.

I've seen both Long Way Round, Long Way Down, as well as Charley Boorman's specials "Race to Dakar", "By Any Means", and "Extreme Frontiers"; him and his crew produce some awesome documentaries. "Long Way Down" is probably my favorite though, as Africa has some beautiful landscape that they ride through, especially in Malawi.

I've been a fan of Top Gear for many years now (when I studied in London in the fall of 2008 I was able to see Top Gear Live; awesome experience), and although the main show itself has always been great to watch, it's the specials that really make the show to me. Like you all mentioned, Bolivia, Vietnam, the Middle East, and the Polar specials were all great adventures to watch. I thought the India special could have been a bit grander, but overall it was a great episode. The part where their banner got caught outside the train and flew out the door, I was just about on the floor laughing, literally. I know some of it is scripted and a lot of it is rehashed, but I don't care all that much really. I still find all of it funny; I just want them to keep going to new and interesting locations. Wish they were able to drive through more of the India countryside, but whatever. Can't wait for the new season to start.

Clarkson said (in an interview on The Chris Moyles Show) he was going to China in December last year for a couple of days, then heading off to Perth. I doubt its a special, they're usually filmed at the end of the year.

Season premier yesterday was a top-class Top Gear episode; a 9 out of 10 for me. Great cars, great locations, great jokes/banter; everything. Their clip on what we can expect the rest of the season left a big grin on my fact as well; going to be a great next 6 weeks.

I enjoyed the new episode. Especially like that they added a refreshment break in the middle of the show.

Watching it now, is good. Hammond trying to talk to the first guy that was supposed to come and fix his car was great. Still doesn't make me want to watch the standard episode every week though. Specials for me.

Will have to grab the episode later, at the same time as Whitechapel.

Episode 2 of the season yesterday was great again; not quite as awesome as the season opener, but still pretty awesome. Their time in Beijing was probably my favorite bit, but the NASCRAP segment was pretty good as well, with Hammond having the time of the his life playing around with those cars. Matt La Blanc getting the fastest celebrity time was a bit unexpected, but still cool. The banter was great, the ninja hilarious; overall a great episode.

Watched the India special and the premiere. Both were very good, the show really excels at the challenges and races.

Geez, they're getting well-known guests. Will I Am, Matt LeBlanc, and next episode will have Ryan Reynolds. Not sure if that's spoiler-worthy, but just in case.

They pretty much have always had well known guests, though Will.i.am surprised me at how good he was as a guest.

I used the William segment to go to the toilet and grab some food.

Matt Le Blanc was pretty dull.

You really don't need to watch it in any sort of order. I haven't seen a lot of the episodes before series 6. I jumped in at series 10, the first episode from that series is a good starting point.

Definitely check out the various Specials episodes. Those tend to be the best.

Watch the specials for sure. You can find them online if you search Top Gear Arctic Special or Top Gear Vietnam Special OR Top Gear Bolivia Special (those are my three favourites).

What he said; the Botswana episode is pretty class as well.

Yesterday's episode was pretty dull. The whole movie thing was dumb.

Also, if any of you haven't checked out Finalgear.com yet, you really should. If you want to watch Top Gear, Top Gear USA, and Final Gear, go here and see how.

Yesterday's ep was alright. You could tell that the movie thing was staged. At least Reynolds looked like he was enjoying himself (unlike the previous two guests).

Agreed on Reynolds, that was a good guest to have. Such a chilled guy. As obviously staged as the movie section was, the editing Hammond had put together when directing Ray Winstone and Plan B had me laughing so much. Their "acting in the air" and then when they'd landed was the best.

Had a Top Gear day today, just finished the first US special where they try to buy a car for $1000 and then end up getting chased out of town by some rednecks. Looks like they were all genuinely in a real situation. Pretty much deserved it though, ha.

That US episode is a classic; that situation was pretty legit, getting chased out of the gas/petrol station by the rednecks. Lol, they sure know how to put themselves in tough situations.....

Last episode wasn't great.

Got a couple of "The Challenges" boxsets to watch tonight though. Basically just all the challenges between each other in any of the shows. Works out nicely as I've watched all of the adventures except for Albania.

Just finished watching the second series premiere, and really enjoyed the hell out of it. Little dates, sure, seeing as it aired in 03, but overall, just listening them talk was interesting the whole time. Really great rapport between Jeremy and James, and the third short guy (Richard?) provided for some laughs as well.

Is quid basically just slang for pound? I know they're the same, but is is like us saying '5 bucks' instead of '5 dollars?'

Hammond gets better as it goes on for sure. Have you seen any of the specials before? Can't remember if I asked seeing as I tend to tell people to go straight for those first.

Yeah exactly that, quid is slang for pound.

Nah, this was the first episode of it that I watched. I figured I'd watch it as I watch all shows, just in order.
I kill through so much TV as it is, I doubt it'll take me very long to get to the awesome specials.

The special adventures don't start for about 8 or 9 seasons more time for you. I think you should just download the Polar, Vietnam and Bolivia specials now  Dares ya...

So I'm probably venturing into 'comments after every episode' territory. Hope you're all cool with this thread getting some increased action.

The second episode was equally awesome. The segment with Jamie Oliver trying to cook while they were going around the track was hilarious, and the bits about the Rolls Royce Phantom and that one really long suspension bridge was incredibly interesting. I quite enjoy this show.
