Whats up everyone? My band and I are thinking about relocating to Philidelphia. I've been a few times and really enjoyed it, but want to know if anyone close to my age has experience living there. How is the music scene in terms of local shows?

Yeah I saw Modest Mouse at the Electric Factory and that place was fucking sick. We also figure that we're 2 hours from NYC, 1.5 hours from Baltimore, and about 2 hrs from D.C. Mad shows.

there's the trocadero, and the tla. i know a couple of local bands that have played here. a lot of people can get shows in the troc's balcony.

i'm not a huge fan of the music (just not my taste) but i know some people around here that would definitely dig it man.

Mad thanks for the info dude. Last time I was in Philly I fell in love with it- seems like a cool place to live. Obviously avoiding the extreme north and south ends...

philly is a great place. a lot of good venues. no matter what kind of music you play, there is always going to be a decent amount of people into that kind of music.

I would recommend spelling it right, though, they're easily offended folk hahaha.

Good call on getting out of NH man, you guys deserve a lot more attention.

Yeah dude! I would say get to Philly, OR move to Cincinnati, the music scene here is really good... and there tends to be a lot of shows here on a weekly basis, I enjoy the scene a lot... though I currently reside in Lexington, but Cincy is only an hour away.

Mad thanks man! I appreciate it. Yeah, we all grew up in a small town of like 12,000 people. There is nothing here- we have to drive at least two hours to play any decent shows, and even then its so sporadic (even bi-weekly) that its hard to get a strong following.

cincy, really? i lived there during high school so maybe it wasn't as cool back then. but all i remember is bogarts, and some other place near by called mad cats, or mad hatters or something.

In a band I used to be in, we had to do this. Except, rather than drive two hours for a decent show, we had to drive two hours for any show. If the move will make things more convenient and less strenuous for your band, then go for it. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that, though.

When I say decent, I mean decent as far as NH shows go. There are NO shows in the town we live in, and we really just want to be part of a cool musical community (ie: most NH bands are either fake assholes or 15 year old rich kids). Plus we're all over twenty and just want to live in a city. Philadelphia females: beware of Hammer Hands

Its gotten a lot better... now that bands are finally making it out of there... like Foxy Shazam is out, Sea Of Treachery (old at daggers drawn) got out, and a few others are all out doing tours or just producing music, though if you get stuck locally there it is hard to get out, but trust me it is definitely getting noticed on the music map, they were talking about it on last years warped, like a lot of bands were, it was a good thing.

good news man. i need to make a trek back there. if you ever go to a show at bogarts, hit up pomodoris pizza afterwards, if its still around. best pizza in cincy.

I live in Philly, and work at one of said venues..
Anyways, from what I noticed, we do have a pretty good local scene.Once kids dig your band, they come out to pretty much every show.

That's what we're looking for. Most of the kids in NH are just... its like a middle school lunch room. No one thinks for themselves and flocks to the most vapid, richest kid.

It allll depends on the genre of music. I would say that Philly is pretty cutthroat if anything. if they don't like you, you will be eaten alive. but if they DO dig you, they are really loyal.

Ah I'm no music critic, and I certainly can't speak for everyone. But I personally dig it.

Try to play some shows round these parts and get a feel for it.

Mad thanks man! So glad you dig it. Our drummer is the man- his name is Tum Tum and he is a viscous Chinese mofo. I think that's my voice you like, the lower one? And I also play the guitar for the band- glad you dig it.
We'll be on itunes soon if you feel like hearing the whole album.

The Philly scene is freakin' excellent. The one band I'm in is from the Atlantic City area, and the whole music scenen in our area is shit. We've played twice at the trocadero, and it was seriously the most fun we've ever had, and people, if they like your stuff there, they'll listen and spread the word. We seriously have a bigger fanbase in philly than down here.
