View Full Version : The best team not in the Top 25

And it is a damn tragedy they aren't in the Top 25...AIR FORCE.
Their 5 starters average around 55% shooting from the field, including about 40% from 3pt range.
One of their starters is below 50% at a measley 49.6% shooting.
As I watched them dismantle an obviously lesser Utah team, I realized that with their coach (former Nuggets coach), and their solid shooting that they are a team that can make a Sweet 16, even Elite 8 run.
It's scary, because their center shoots the 10-15 foot jump hook like it's a damn layup, but unfortunately they lack a big power guy inside. He's 6'10, 215lbs, so like alot of their team, they are tall and lanky.
Unfortunately I jumped on this bandwagon after the Washington game (one of their 2 losses in their 16-2 record) so I have only seen them against Mountain West teams really, but they are a solid team.
I'll make sure to mention the next time they are on TV. They aren't that exciting to watch, because they play perhaps the best possession basketball I have seen this year, but when they do run, their 3 and 4 guys have excellent dribbling as well as their guards, it's pretty crazy.

yeah, it was last night they played Utah on EPSN2 at 9, they rocked them\\
Also, another thing to watch for is the Top 3 in the Big Sky.
Northern Arizona is good, Sacramento State has 3 players that can put up 20+ in their games (and did the other night in ther 107-105 win), and Montana is relying on a good sophomore Forward in Andrew Strait.
Any other teams from mid-majors I am missing?

yeah, i saw they were up like 12 or 15 at half or something, and i was like "i know i should watch this because air force is having a good year... but nah, it'll be a blowout in the 2nd half too" and shut it off.

it was like 54-27 when I finally stopped watching, they just continually outplayed them for 40 minutes

Well, I can say in all honestly that the Jayhawks are most certainly no the best team in the top 25. We're so absolutely frustrating to watch its unbelievable! Hopefully we'll be able to manage a win against Nebraska tomorrow, but if the Huskers drop into a 2-3 zone we're completely fucked. I agree with Air Force though, they're an incredibly smooth team. Definitely well coached with plenty of tournament potential.

How about the top of the Missouri Valley? Jesus. Talk about a loaded conference. #5 conference in RPi (read that again and think about it), they deserve 5 teams in the tourney at this point. Check out the resumes of Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Missouri State, Creighton and Wichita State and disagree with me. When the 2nd to last team in your mid-major conference beat Indiana (I'm talkin' Indiana State) you deserve some love. If the MVC gets less than 4 (given teams dont collapse) I'll be disappointed.

Haha, I completely forgot them because they seem like a major conference to me this year. Yeah, I don't think they get 4 teams in sadly, but they'll get 3.

Hmmm, I didn't actually look at the top 25 before I posted this, I can't believe they aren't in it.
Their losses are to two top 5 teams and a good Santa Clara team, plus they have wins over a decent Depaul team (they beat Wake earlier this year), and a very good win over Syracuse.
I know they were in the Top 25, I just assumed they hadn't dropped out yet

Iowa.
Well, now they are outside the top 25 after getting trounced by Michigan State.
And damn, Air Force lost a toughy at New Mexico, but hopefully its one of their small lapses.

yeah. it was weird seeing MSU dominate (though i didn't watch the game, slept wayyyyy the fuck in) and kansas looked to be handling their business today. where's that been all year?

Well, they dominate one game, and then lose by 2 the next, it's been a tough year.
