helllo kids...its 11 a.m and i just woke up to quite a gorgeous day. right now im listening to celia cruz's guantanamera to start off the day. great song. anyways, so we have about 7 songs mixed and i have to say they sound mazing. im personally most excited for 2 specific songs. one being a song called "kicking myself". a stripped down acoustic number that speaks of the uncertainty of love. lyrically my favorite song on the record, i get a lump in my throat listening to it. another one is a little tune named "love, love, love (love, love). sonically one of my favorites. in this song we had my sisters, brother and some of their friends come in and sing the chorus. in a strange way, it carries a sense of mystery and an overwhelming feeling of innocence at the same time. love exactly. listening to the mixes back to back, its all beginning to come together now and i believe this is going to be a special record for us. we've finally fallen into the grooves of it all, of what it is to be a band and in many ways rediscovered ourselves as musicians. I mean, ive never seen cliff play better in his life and to me he is the ringleader of this record. Ive been locked up in a room with him since summer playing these songs an endless amount of times and i still to this day air drum my ass off everytime i hear a mix. In turn, he has made me the player that i am today and i am most grateful for that. we've all been so influenced by one another as players and feed on eachother's energy. dan and sean have impressed me more than i ever imagined. dan's voice sounds better than it ever has. hearing him made me much more confident singing which is something that i wanted to work on considering the fact that all of us sing on the record at some point or another and we will all be singing on tour. speaking of tour! we leave in about a week for the spill canvas tour. it starts in good ol' Chicago so we have a decent drive ahead of us to the first show. we are really excited to get out on the road again and to play these songs out live. i feel like the road is where we belong. being home is always great for obvious reasons, but when you play music for a living the road is your home and im itchin' to get there. more and more touring is being scheduled as we speak so we are getting ready to be out for a long time. we'll see you at the shows so dont be stangers. hope all is well. p.s. the low end theory by a tribe called quest is a excellent record that all of you should own. love, julio

Alot of people are hyping ATAL on the site. I'm pretty skeptical as to if they deserve it, Lafcadio is very average. They are brimming with potential but many bands have loads of potential without ever capitalizing on it.

It shouldn't be too difficult for them to top Lafcadio but it is going to have to be leaps and bounds better or As Tall As Lions won't be around much longer.

this record really should turn some heads... if it gets the right push. and low end theory is indeed a great cd.

Average?! That record is one of my favorites of the past three years... absolutely flawless. It took about 4 months of listening for me to realize that though.

That record was my favorite of 2004, hands down. It had the same effect one me in 2004 that Days Away's album had on me this year.

Yeah I would hardly say that Lafacadio is average. Both Lafcadio and Mapping An Invisible World get better every listen.

Hey, tastes differ and this is probably just a big issue of preferences here. I'm not the type who posts that an opinion on an album if I haven't heard it several times.

I own Lafcadio and have spun it several times. There are a couple gems on there but alot of yawners too, in my opinion. I hope their new album is incredible, I really do. I'm just saying if they put out Lafcadio II they probably won't be able to survive the meat grinder that is the music business for much longer.
