Syracuse, NY has lost another one. On January 2nd, Club Tundra closed their doors for the final time. Bands like Saosin, Acceptance, Matchbook Romance, Armor For Sleep, Anberlin, As I Lay Dying, Dillinger Escape Plan, Underoath, Motion City, Soundtrack Silverstein, Finch, Blindside, Poison The Well, From First To Last, and Hawthorne Heights played there last year alone, and now, the room is gone. However, the show must go on! The Less Than Jake (www.lessthanjake.com) show scheduled for Tuesday January 24th has been moved to The Furnace! Show details can be found at Myspace.com (www.myspace.com/syracuseshows). Please, if you are from upstate NY, tell everyone you can, so that there is little confusion on show day.

That sucks... I don't live close enough to see shows there, but it always sucks when a venue shuts down.

R.I.P. Club Tundra

It sucks that for whatever reasons when a good venue closes. I'm still sad about Laga in Pittsburgh that closed a few years back.

The closing of venues seriously does suck.. Hey, atleast New York is one of the biggest cities in the u.s. and bands Always go through New York on a tour or what not. Pittsburgh has seen so many great venues close that there almost isn't a scene in Pittsburgh anymore - because their's nowhere to play. Any shows booked in Pittsburgh are definatly NOT a dissapointment, but for the most part alot of major tours in the past few years (with a northwest leg) don't even make a stop to the city of steel. >:o

As much as I disagree with that statement, it made me laugh when I read it.

new york is a big state... i dont know if you realize this, but NYC is over 5 hrs from syracuse. so when you say at least shows come through NY... that doesnt mean the people in that area will see em. this leaves one actual constant show venue in syracuse now too... the furnace (an all ages christian venue). shits fallin off quickly.

Um... New York is a state first, city second. Syracuse is nowhere near NYC.

don't feel bad about this, people. club tundra was the worst venue in syracuse. the furnace is ten times better.

No, this asshat only chose to list the pop rock bands that came through Tundra. That venue has a lot of fucking history. This year alone, it had the last show for The Promise, accompanied by Bane and Freya. We had Verse, Outbreak, Most Precious Blood, Dead Hearts, Unearth, and countless other great bands come through.

It wasn't the best venue, but it's a loss of a venue nonetheless, which is always shitty.

Fuck you dude, This seriosly really sucks for Syracuse since there is such a lack of Venues already.

But, Ive heard some rumors that its only closing for awhile to be remodeled to accomdate a kitchen and undergo new management?

but you can't honestly say that club tundra was a good venue. i think even planet 505 was better than tundra.

Who cares, Jesus, it was a venue. Now all we've really got is The Furnace and the Westcott. Both great venues, but we need more than two, and regardless of whether or not you liked the place, it held so many memorable shows I can't even count them.

it's a sin to use the lord's name in vain. and i've seen more memorable shows at 505, but it was a shitty venue. and unfortunately, that's what happens to shitty venues. they close.

Great thing about Club Tundra is that when tour bands come through town, your "VIP" pass got you into the strip club across the parking lot.

There's nothing better than seeing your drummer get his ass spanked by a leather belt.. for like $2 (gotta give the ladies something!), in an empty strip club on a Wednesday night.

Seriously though, I'm kind of bummed, this was a pretty nice club, good sound if nothing else.

hahaha yea dude, when my band played there that was my first time goin to a strip club cause it was free haha, it was sweet.

And even though it looked like shit from the outside, it was a nice club on the inside, it was A Venue, and Syracuse cant afford to lose another venue because there is such a lack of venues for touring bands in the first place in Syracuse

I hate hearing about clubs that close. Pretty soon there's going to be no where to go to shows except arenas. Not that I'm against them, but nothing beats a good club show, nothing at all.

Hell yeah, it was my first strip-club experience too.. I went all out, fell for the backroom dance with the cutie that was flirting with me all night. I know.. thats what they do to make this happen, but shit, it was the beginning of the tour, so I had money, and.. well, I like naked girls on me. She went all out too.. interesting night to say the least. I do dig Syracuse, we'll be back there at the end of March, though, not at Club Tundra. I'm honestly sad, I wouldn't mind another free night in the strip joint.

Now that I sound like a total hornball/creep, I'm going to stop talking.

the furnace can't be open a whole lot & westcott is only so big.
so where exactly are the larger tours [such as the starting line] supposed to go?

all i know is that last weekend there was a change in ownership which promptly fell through, & now the inside is gutted.

we're talking syracuse new york, not NYC. syracuse is a good four hours from NYC

and MOTHERFUCK. this means we have ONE small venue in syracuse. not counting SU's schine underground. and if you've ever been to the furnace you know that [a] its tiny [b] its regulars are 14 year old goth kids [c] its in the middle of nowhere.

like i mentioned to someone else earlier, syracuse is turning more small town everyday.
