Have a great great week! Good luck in your second semester!
Some bands to check out:
---
I Hate Myself (http://www.noidearecords.com/bands/releases/ihatemyself_10songs.php) - spectacular screamo (the real kind)
New London Fire (http://www.purevolume.com/newlondonfire) - formerly the incredible Sleep Station, dancey indie
The Pale Pacific (http://www.purevolume.com/thepalepacific) - darker Death Cab

poor choice man
I Hate Myself are untouchable... perhaps the last band to make real, actual, sincere screamo music that can tear into your freakin soul and also make you laugh
They are legendary... but I guess no one should have paid attention to that band named after those disgusting bugs that crunch when you step on them... The Beatles?
I'm playing though... I thought the same thing at first, but give them a chance

wow, they were doing that in 97? damn, were they ahead of their time or what?! Also, I have two pale cds, one when the were the pale "gravity gets things done" and one as the pale pacific "uregency". I gotta say, i find them no darker than Death Cab and I feel that Urgenct wasn't quite as good as Gravity....But anyways, thats not to say their not good, I am just of the opinion that they are anything special. But that I Hate Myself rec, not bad, I still am blown away by how ahead of their time they were. No one had even heard of screamo until about 4 years from them. Cool recs overall.

that's interesting that you thought the pale pacific is darker.. i thought pale pacific wrote about what splits families apart and stuff while thinking death cab takes on the "darker" topics when writing, which is why i can't listen to some of their stuff, it's too sad

Garret, you are right on. I listen to all three of those bands, and I must say I Hate Myself is probably my favorite. It is a cheesy band name, however I think they were trying to be ironic by naming themself that. King Of A Long Way Down is probably my favorite track on their cd. But I enjoy them all.

Wait, so you're saying screamo didn't exist until '01?

Hooray for the New London Fire rec. Those guys just can't go wrong...Sleep Station is sooo good, so if you haven't heard 'em go check either one of them out.
Anyone know if there's a release date yet for "I Sing the Body Holographic"?
