I just bought one, it's my first guitar... What are some opinions on it? I'm not very knowledgeable on guitars and I had only heard that this one is for beginners, so I went and bought it online.

I've been playing for 12 years; I started out on an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, went on to buy another, then an Epiphone SG Junior, and finally about 6 months ago stepped up bit and bought the Epiphone Les Paul Custom. My band is recording right now, but typically we have a pretty rigorous show schedule and I have never had an issue with any of my guitars. I did play the second Special II literally to death (it was old as hell anyways when I bought it). All I can say is treat the guitar right (keep it clean, change strings regularly, etc.) and it will stay in great working order forever. Epiphones are merely Gibsons without the corners on the headstock to me. All gibsons have otherwise are nicer pickups and in some cases nicer wood, but ultimately you can get the same tone from both in my opinion. (I believe the tone is in the player, not the guitar, its all in how you play it). Treat the guitar like it's your child and it will treat you just as well. (as far as amps go....peavey, orange or crate are the way to go if youre not planning on gigging too hard)

I used to own one, it was my second guitar. There are times I'm sad I had to sell it, it was a really great guitar for the price.

Great for a beginner guitar.

My first guitar was an Epiphone also. Great guitar. It should be able to do about anything you want it to. If you haven't yet, get it professionally set up (intonation and all that). Les Pauls sound good with 10 gauge strings, that's about as light as you want to go without sacrificing tone for playability.

Yes, definitely. I had an LP100 for a minute, and it came from the factory set up TERRIBLE. I set it up, and replaced the strings. That made a huge difference.
