The rankings just go by wins and losses so they really mean nothing, the best team regardless of what the rankings are is duke, even though i hate duke. uconn lost to marquette (steve novak, baby) and it wasn't even close. at least duke's loss wasn't as bad. and duke has beat a lot of good teams. uconn not as much. my prediction is they won't be number 1 for long.
ohgodohnoiam

I can understand how based just on the teams they've beat so far Duke looks like the better team, but anyone who thinks that Uconn can't match up with Duke and at least make a good close game out of it is wrong.

Rankings usually aren't based on hypotheticals. I think the Zags matched up (tired) against Uconn and made a good game out of it (lost by what, 2?) doesn't make them a top 5 team in the standings. The defense of Duke will effect Williams like it did Feldman (that his name? UNC's point guard) last year .... if last year's Duke team can beat last years UNC team, this year's Duke team can beat this year's Uconn team.

I don't see Gonzaga making it past the sweet 16 this year unless they get a ridiculously easy draw. One thing that sucks about being a mid major is that they play so many cupcakes in the 2 months before the tourney, then they get shocked by an upstart team (see: Last year)

No one on Uconn can cover Redick. No ONE person in college baskeball can cover Redick right now. Even alternating them (like they tried at Texas) just wears out 4 players instead of one.

Has Calhoun has his team ranked #1 at some point in the season for about 8 straight years? K is in a league of his own, Man. I mean he's been dominating since like '92? There's no such thing as an "off year" at Duke. Last year was an "off year" and they were still ranked #1 at one point...

Doubtful. I can play this game too. Williams 15 assists, austrie with another 5. Armstrong/Boone dominate the glass on both ends, 10 blocks at least. Gay puts up 30 and Anderson comes off the bench with another 25. And this isnt even getting into Adrien/Brown/Nelson.
If both teams bring thier A games then neither teams put up what was just posted. If both teams bring their A games then the final score is likely somewhere around 77-74.

I don't see how anyone's going to guard him in the NBA. I could see him taking a year or so to adjust ... working his ass off (it's legendary how hard he trains) and then drop'in 30 a game. The right team with the right other players (and a star) around him - and he makes that team an instant threat everynight.

People guard Ray Allen, who's never averaged close to 30 a game in a season and is a better and more complete player than J.J. Redick. Plus, Redick is undersized for the 2, and he's no Allen Iverson. There's no way he'll put up 30 a game. Plus, if he has a star around him, he'll never even get 20 a game - the NBA is full of selfish dudes.

What do I get if I'm right? I didn't say he'd average it, I said he'd hit it. Ray Allen averages like 25. And is only shooting 38% from behind the arc this year ... I think you're wrong. Uconn has six guys averaging 9+ points a game. They might not have a super star on their team but they can bring a solid game on a regular basis.

Marquette disagrees :)
hahaha, without JJ Duke sucks, and any night someone from UCONN can step up and dominate.
dominate? jj had 41 the other night. they only lost cause freshman didnt show up and shelden had foul trouble and was taken out of the game. josh boone isnt stepping up and scoring 41

There's no need for one guy to get 41 when you have six guys that can contribute in the double digets when needed.

Yeah but unlike Uconn they rely heavily on one player.

2 players, "heavily" - but take Boone/Armstrong out and Uconn's average too.
