So i've written a review of Fall Out boy's show for my uni mag which is below.

Fall Out Boy- Cardiff, The Great hall- 22/01/05

The opening date of Fall Out Boy’s first headlining tour of From Under the Cork tree is at a very cold Cardiff. Its taken 7 months and a cancelled European tour for them to get here and in that time they’ve exploded onto MTV in the US and are starting to do the same in the UK.

Opening the nights proceedings are Nightmare of you. Due to poor management skills of venue organisers I have to queue for over an hour and only manage to catch the last half of there set. However what I do catch is very good, nothing like the lead singers former band the Movielife it’s almost reminiscent of The Smiths. A very good opener.

Now you wouldn’t expect to go to pop-punk gig and end up watching Hip-hop group. Gym Class Heroes a hip-hop group from upstate New York are the main support for Fall Out Boy and are simply brilliant. While some of the crowd right them off form the start they put in a belting performance playing ‘taxi driver’ to a treat. The crowd goes wild when Patrick from Fall Out Boy comes on stage to sing his part in one of their songs.

Fall Out Boy takes to the stage and the crowd goes mental. This tour sold out before Fall Out Boy were getting any main stream press coverage so its full of fans and its without doubt one of the craziest gigs I’ve ever been too. Fall out boy are brilliant performers, with Joseph and Pete doing quite a few whirls across the stage and leaping off the drum kit. Highlights had to be ‘Grand Theft Autumn’, ‘Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner’ and ‘Saturday’, at which point Pete came into the crowd to sing. It was a cracking show and I think proves these guys have got what it takes to make it to megastar status, give it some time and they’ll be close to the same status of Green Day. Also Pete cleared one thing up for everyone, “We don’t hate girls, we hate everyone,” well said.

Set List

Our Lawyer Made us Change the Name of This song so we Wouldn’t get sued
Homesick at space camp
Sugar we’re goin down
Nobody puts baby in the Corner
Ups and downs
A Little less Sixteen Candles, A little More “Touch Me”
Grand Theft Autumn/ Where is Your Boy
I slept with someone in Fall out Boy and All I got was This Stupid song
Dance, Dance
Opener
Of All the Gin Joints in all the World
Saturday

It was a cracking night made all the more sweeter by getting a pick and set list. I havent had time to figure out what opener and ups and downs is, if anyone knows please let me know. My only complaint would be that there set was a tad short (about 45 minutes), and I know that saying they'll be as big as Green Day maybe be a bit controvosial BUT these guys put on a great live show and were better than the last time I saw Green day. Let the flaming begin.

Monday 23 January 2006, Carling Academy; Birmingham. Fall Out Boy supported by Gym Class Heroes and Nightmare Of You.

The Boy’s from Chicago, who apparently Fall Out a lot created, surely one of the craziest mosh pits that everyone gathered to witness their performance had ever seen!

Fans are accustomed to being involved in one mêlée of sweaty teenagers hurtling themselves into one another but last night, there were three occurring simultaneously!

Unfortunately, the performance of the band didn’t match that of the audience!

This gig had been sold out long before the guys had begun to get air time over here in the UK, and although the first single, ‘Sugar We’re Going Down’, from new album, ‘From Under the Cork Tree’, along with old favourite ‘Grand Theft Autumn’, certainly got the crowd going, their overall sound seemed flat and under-rehearsed, epitomised by some instrumental mistakes from lead singer Patrick Stump and guitarist Joe Trohman.

Openers Nightmare Of You were morbidly delightful. Impish yet commanding lead-singer and former Movielife guitarist, Brandon Reilly arrogantly yet lovingly welcomed the audience to his band’s blend of gracefully captivating pop rock.

The penultimate act before the headliners; Gym Class Heroes are a mix of rap, punk and rock, combining an essentially hip-hop sound, but by using totally live instruments.

Overall, the audience loved Fall Out Boy, whether they were technically sound or not and their tremendous energy made for a thoroughly exciting show.

well i don't know about in europe, but fob is definitely at megastar status here. i'm glad you had a good time. look past the ploys to get attention and this band is still fun and enjoyable. ps i'm not blaming them for said "ploys", it's just annoying when pete says we hate everyone every single show.
