Yellowcard (http://www.yellowcardrock.com)'s record release show last nigt in New York City was apparently an amazing night capped off with an amazing performance by the band and special guests in attendance: Lindsay Lohan, The Olsen Twins and Jessica Alba. The band's new album, Lights and Sounds, is on shelves now.

Show was really good last. LP did a pretty sick drum solo for a minute or two and Ryan Mendez pulled some eddie van halen-esque solo out. Say what you will about not liking their new music or their history with Ben, but they put on a great show last night, although someone is apparently getting too old to do backflips anymore i guess. Three things: 1) before the show there is a screen blocking the stage and you can text messages to a certain number and they put some on the screen for everyone in the audience to see...someone texted "Where's Ben?" and it was up...couple people got a chuckle out of that. 2) Pete left the stage during Empty Apartment but you could still hear the bass being played...then midway through the song i see him at the soundboard upstairs in irving plaza...he got back on stage just in time for the end...i guess a guitar tech offstagfe was playing while he was gone... 3) Ryan asked the crowd how many people downloaded their record over the past few weeks and a lot of people cheered. he said that was "good, we don't care if you download it. i guess i shouldn't say that since our record company is here tonight, but we don't care."

How does "egh, their cd is probably gonna be terrible" equate to it not making any money?

Apparently you haven't realized that quality has nothing to do with how well something sells. This CD will sell incredibly well. Also remember that most people buy a CD without downloading it first, so they don't know what they're getting. And I think that's still a safe assumption because most people who download the CD probably don't buy it anyway.

I find it rather obserd how people judge an album based upon what other people have said, even though they have not given it a listen. All this website has is a bunch of bandwagon bullshit. If one person says Yellowcard sucks, all the sudden everyone thinks the same without using THEIR OWN judgement. It has become more obvious to me each time I visit this website. The most prominent example of a bandwagon on this site has to be the infactuation with bands that provide anything but a breakthrough in the music industry: Hawthorne Heights. The problem here, franctly, is that people do more listening to others, than listening to themselves.

The new record has some good tracks, a lot of mediocre tracks, and some real shitty tracks.
Combined with their sell out attitude, I think a lot of former Yellowcard fans have a right to criticise the band now.
Friday nite i saw Fall Out Boy, a band meeting the same level of success that Yellowcard did. The diferrence is, love them or hate them - you can tell Fall Out Boy are genuine, they're in it to make music and to help kids by playing their music.
Yellowcard just want dollars.

He didn't leave the band to work on his label Takeover Records, he was kicked out. He was so upset that there was even talk of him suing Yellowcard and forcing them to keep him in the band. I'm not sure if any of that ever went through, and I also (just like everyone else) have no idea why exactly Ben was kicked out.

yeah because the bands you listen to have so much more talent. seriously, like someone said before, it's a bandwagon and it works both ways. it can be to either like a band or to hate a band, but when people make decisions on an album based on 1 listen or no listens then they are fucking stupid. if i just threw out every album i thought was mediocre after one listen, i wouldn't have to come to like a lot of the albums that I would say are my favorites.

Empty Apartment

Cigarette (Ryan played acoustic then full band came out)
October Nights

Avondale

Rough Landing Holly

I know I'm missing a few (i think they may have played Words, Hands, Hearts but can't remember) but that is the majority of the set.

i didnt download the album, and im sure as hell not buying it, i gave it a spin on their myspace, they had it up for streaming, its shitty. thats that. its not a good album, and they are all a bunch of asshats, save for lp who seemed to be the only one who wanted to let ben know what was going on, and yes, kicking my favorite member out does have a large hand in my dislike for them, but nothing compares to one for the kids, or the underdog ep. this album isnt great, how it got rated more then a 1 out of 10 ANYWHERE is anyones guess, but whatever, it will sell well, but i will not give these guys anymore of my hard earned dollars, id much rather spend my $ on bands who dont stab their friends in the back.

i cant believe all the people in this thread that actually said they are bad songwriters and they have no talent. i hate hawthorne heights but i admit that they are still talented and they obviously must be at least somewhat good at songwriting if two of their songs they wrote themselves got them thousands of records sold. until you guys write a song that pushes a ton of cd's and has kids all over the country singing it then dont call a band talentless and/or bad songwriters.

Lights and Sounds > Ocean Avenue, but not as good as One For The Kids. I feel like I'll be able to listen to these songs on a much more consistent basis than OA Ocean Avenue was a tad too saccharine for my tastes. This is more of an extension of Way Away and Breathing, the best tracks from the last album. There do seem to be some more growing pains, in different ways than Ocean Avenue had them, such as in Space Travel and Words, Hands, Hearts. I wish Ryan Mendez could have contributed to this album, I'm excited to see what his input to the band will be, as On is still in my all time favorite albums.

Anyway, most hate on this album comes from the Ben Harper situation, which I'm a tad torn on because it seems like he got a raw deal, but again, now Ryan Fucking Mendez is in the band. Improvement and a half. The rest of the hate is kids who already dislike Yellowcard taking advantage of said drama.

P.S. Oh my God Rough Landing Holly for the win. Awesome track.

haha ignorant is the word that igorant people call other people in order to make themselves sound less ignorant.

that is the damn truth. and that's all i wanted to say.

wise people never call other people ignorant because wise people know that there are other things more important than knowledge.

at the yc show i went to a couple months ago...pete did the same thing on empty apartment...walked to the soundboard and hung out for a few seconds and then left. i don't know why the fuck he did it.

the ryan mendez and lp solos were pretty damn sick. proving that the band does have great musicianship, despite the popular notion that suggests otherwise.
