Looking to buy a camcorder (didn't know where to put this)

So I'm looking to buy a camcorder and I need some advice on what to get. I want something that has good quality but is reasonably priced.

Is a MiniDV better than a Hard-drive, or vice versa?

I have a Mac, so it would need to be compatible with that.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, but if anyone is familiar with cameras or a filmmaker please help me out.
