why does everyone hate drive thru records?

Lots of reasons.
Mainly because currently they are a pretty bad label. They havn't had many releases, they are not promoting any albums or any of the bands on their label basically.
I mean, the label wouldn't even make one of their bands CDs to sell on a tour? That's so low it's rediculous. Drive Thru used to have some of the best pop punk bands around (Allister, The Movielife, New Found Glory, Midtown, The Starting Line, Something Corporate, The Early November, etc.). They've really gone so far downhill so quickly. It's pathetic.

They tried to become FBR.

I don't hate the label, I think it just sad that they we were a good label, and then they had such a drop from grace. I think that went TEN died(or broke up) Drive- Thru just went into a downward spiral into a hole they just can't get out of.

I didn't know anyone hated it.

Because the amount of good bands they have caused to break up is baffling.

never heard about that.
Yep. They didn't supply them with albums for at least the Say No to Neon Tour. Houston Calls burned copies themselves with 5 b-sides bonus tracks and sold the burned copy for 5 dollars. There was a sign that said basically Drive Thru refused to supply them with copies of the CD to sell.
It was pretty bad.

Ace Enders
Hellogoodbye
Socratic
Steel Train
House Of Fools
Houston Calls, up until today
i'm probably missing some, but i think those are the active bands. I Am The Avalanche is apparently not on there anymore, i've been told.
i don't really have a problem with the label. DTR used to be the home of all my favorite bands. but it seems like after the era of TEN and TSL ended, they lost it. i just think it sucks how little support they've given to some of these artists. i mean, they announce they're signing a new unknown band a few days before one of their bands calls it quits, citing financial difficulties as one of the reasons for their break up. if the label had given Houston Calls more support all along, they might not have broken up.

If they had given them ANY support. Houston Calls was the best artist on the label other than Ace Enders.
It really sucks that they broke up. It's pathetic how little support they gave.

They gave no support because that label has no money. Bands would have the same backing self-producing and self-releasing their album rather than signing to Drive-Thru and asking for anything.

Drive-Thru hasn't been giving support for years. Look at Adelphi and Jenoah. They both started out as conventional pop-punk but started to expand and mature and Drive-Thru just wanted them to stay the same and be a cash crop. Sucks since both of their EPs showed a lot of promise.

yeah, it's incredibly pathetic. but there is nothing anyone can do if the label doesn't have the money to support their artists. which is why i don't understand why they're taking on new bands when they can't even afford to support the ones that are currently on their roster. luckily, Ace is being backed by Vagrant and he seems to be doing alright. but every other band is either pretty inactive at the moment or not getting the support they deserve. the label is practically dead.

don't know where all the hate comes from, they've never signed anything besides average pop-punk bands, with the exception of about 2 or 3 above average bands.

Hating on Drive Thru is so 2004.
The label made an affiliation/distribution deal with MCA about 8 years ago (which allowed bands like NFG and Something Corporate to eventually be on MCA themselves) and then MCA basically screwed them over and Drive Thru was basically forced to start over from scratch. That's the story as far as I know it at least.

Yeah. they used to have that money and were incredibly supportive of their bands (even bands that never had mainstream success like The Early November and even the RX Bandits who were one of the first bands on the label before it became well-known) but don't anymore for reasons outside their control (see previous post)
