From MTV.com (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1522669/20060127/index.jhtml?headlines=true): "Nettwerk Music Group, the Canadian record label and artist-management company that is home to Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies and Sum 41, is taking on the RIAA on behalf of Elisa Greubel, a 15-year-old Texan whose father was sued by the recording industry trade group in August 2005 for owning a computer that allegedly shared more than 600 music files." You can read the rest of the article here (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1522669/20060127/index.jhtml?headlines=true).

"Among the nine songs the RIAA is focusing on in the suit, according to Nettwerk, is management client Lavigne's "Sk8er Boi."

Fuck that. She deserves to be sued, for having that song.

Seriously though, its good to see a record label stepping up.

If only all labels did this, but most are just in it for the money.

good for nettwerk, it's nice to see that at least one music group is grounded in reality.

Does the RIAA realize this just makes people hate them more? and won't stop people from downloading top 40 songs.... ever. " I sue..... ummm...... The People of The United States of America!" "yeah, good one Jim, that'll teach those 12 year old cocksuckers."

Isnt downloading legal in canada and the UK? I know this case doesnt have anything to do with that but why cant it be legal in the US. Personally I dont download anymore atleast illegally but wouldnt money be better spent other places than on lawyers to sue 15 year olds? Indy labels to a point have embraced it and so should the majors. I dont feel sorry for the major record labels that are losing money or more like not making as much money. People at the top are still doing fine while they lay off people at the bottom. I know people that come to this site that work for major labels but is the industry really hurting that much? Everything has to hit a peak and then drop off so jobs will be lost but dont blame it on downloading. Its technology embrace it dont blame it.

You say this as though the RIAA cares what you think about them.

I'm sure the biggest selling point for a change of the RIAA's attitude is that they want all of the bored, 15-year-old kids who can't even afford the music to begin with, to stop calling them names on message boards.

Personally I have never seen it as more than a hightech way of borrowing someones cd and making a copy of it for myself. A lot of people need to know what the true definition of piracy is. I support bands I like, I go to their shows and buy their T-shirts, hoodies, stickers, stc. I also usually buy cd's if I can afford to, but I am not goingto pay for a heaping pile of dog shit (ie the new A static lulaby).
