View Full Version : Music I need to listen to before college?
Just start naming stuff. I need to know if I'm deprived of anything. I won't put what I like as I'll listen to anything. Leave the obvious out though...as its well obvious.

Well I love Butch Walker so anything by him or any of his bands Marvelous 3 or 1969 is tops in my book (though I haven't been able to find any of the stuff from his earlier bands). Also, Sense Field (or the two albums of theirs I have 'Tonight & Forever' & 'Living Outside') is worth a listen
And here's a list of bands/singers that are worth a listen that I've recently gotten into because of recommendations from friend(s) but I'm guessing they are all going to border on the 'obvious' side haha
Alkaline Trilo
Brand New
Elliott Smith
Kevin Devine (and I *just* found a the Miracle of 86 cd a few days ago a a Disc Replay and it rocked)
Brett Dennen
Btw, there isn't going to be a test or anything about what music you listen to or requried music listening thing. At both schools I went to, pretty much there were representatives of people who listen to whatever kind of music you can think of. In my group of friends, there are people who like techo, emo, rock, pop, rap, r&b, old school stuff, country...

Marcy's Playground. EVERYONE in college listens to, and is obsessed with, Marcy's Playground.

These United States (I could listen to "First Sight" on repeat for hours)
The Postal Service (classic but still worth a mention)
The New Frontiers (this is better than their LP - http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/the-new...26-111169.html (http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/the-new-frontiers-the-touching-adventures-of-us-all-concert/20030226-111169.html))
Bishop Allen (really fun stuff)
Daphne Loves Derby (great live shows)
Everybody Else (pretty epic pop single material - listen to "Makeup", "Alone in the World")
The Gabe Dixon Band (the kinda stuff you'd hear in a coffee shop, but incredibly catchy - listen to "All Will Be Well" and "And the World Turned", if you can find it)
Good Old War (almost like Simon and Garfunkel at times)
House of Heroes (really up-and-coming, intense stuff - listen to "Lose Control")
Iron & Wine
Monument Monument
The New Pornographers (not as bad as it sounds :)
Paper Route
Reefer (side project of islands, really interesting stuff)
Sufjan Stevens ("Casimir Pulaski Day" is incredible)
Denison Witmer
Youth Group
