This does not make sense, but there is a rumor about TO for Simeon Rice

they'd be better off trading him for a second or third rounder.

i just don't see anybody wanting to trade for him. that seems silly.

he'll be cut by march 1st and put on the free agent market. it'd be dumb to give something up and absorb that contract. it only makes sense for a team that doesn't think they have a shot at him in free agency. but, who knows.

and also, any team that's willing to give him more than a one-year contract to start out with is out of their mind.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. However, I would do a back-handspring out of joy if it were true.

It doesnt matter if they give him more than a one year contract because they arent guaranteed in the nfl...they could conceivably sign him to a 100 year contract, cut him after one year, and only owe him his signing bonus.

true...but with big market players, there are always contract clauses that would basically protect him from something like that. if the player wants the team to be able to cut him, they'll throw in an "option" for that. but if the guys going in looking to play 6 years, and they sign him to that...the team might have to pay penelties or a certain part of the contract when that player goes to another team.

Which is exactly what the Eagles did when they signed him. I don't think anybody thought he'd play there all seven years of the contract, and they backloaded the money just in case he did blow up after 1-2 seasons so they could cut him without losing much money (I believe they would have paid him around $12 million for the two seasons, but he lost a lot with suspensions and such. If he would have shut his mouth and played ball, he'd be rolling in the money during the last five years of the contract).
