This has been pretty weak, but at least it's football.

- Cutler didn't look that great at all, top QB my ass
- That WR Hagans stinks
- Deangelo Williams is going to be so good
- Michael Robinson deserves a shot in the NFL
- I swear some player said "****** be chillin" when they had the camera in the locker room at the half

That was all right on. Willians looked great...on his three carries. And Hagans was simply funny.

And I can't blame the kid for muffing the punt, he was going for it, there's no way he doesn't make every effort to catch that ball, even when falling. That's gonna look fucking terrible though...

And Robinson will get a shot in the NFL, no doubt. He's the next Kordell Stewart...whether that's a good or bad thing, I'm not sure...

Why is the Titans crew there?

Mike Nolan and the 49ers coaches are there for the other team. I'm not sure how they decide it, but they seem to just pick a scrub team's coaching staff every year to do this. I know Gruden was there last year, that's where he fell in love with the Cadillac.

Totally agree about Cutler and Hagans. I think Cutler has skills, but he's clearly inferior to Leinart and Young. Mortensen is foolish to suggest otherwise. I think any team (here's looking at you Detroit) would be crazy to spend a top 10 pick on this guy.

Before this game I thought Hagans would be a darkhorse pick for the Pats (if Givens isnt re-signed) ...after today's performance I no longer have to worry about that.

No offense, but come on. This is Mortensen and co.'s job. Anyway....Cutler didn't look that great in this game, but he did in practice and all season long as well as last season. Should he go higher than Leinart, etc? No. I still think he can do very well in the NFL from what I've seen of him the past couple of years.

Mortensen knows more than I do, of course. But Cutler's bandwagon is huge right now, even though he wasn't even talked about as a 1st round pick until midway through Vandy's season. I just think this stuff about him being the best QB is nuts. Everyone was all over Lendale White for a week and his stock has already dipped back to where it was initially, and I think the same will be for Cutler. He's a top 15 pick still, but this best QB stuff will blow over.

I completely agree about the best QB talk. He may very well end up being better than the others but so far Leinart and Young have both looked better (but they HAVE had more to work with). Sorry for skewing your words some. Being an SEC guy, I often jump to the defense of its players, even at times when it is not needed.

you mean Scott Mitchell and Ty Detmer.
as Joey never got a fair shake in detroit. people shouldn't put all the blame on him for the lions shitty results.

however, cutler will be a top 10 pick because the lions will pick on "needs" even if the person isn't a top ten pick.
i initially would have liked to see cutler, but now i'm not certain. i'd like for them to trade up or maybe down, secure more picks, and start to rebuild the o-line.

but they'll probably take cutler. if not, probably marcus hagans, because every contender spends 4 straight 1st round picks on WR's, don't they?

still_life
01/28/06, 11:54 PM
Oh yeah, Ty Detmer, guy that threw 7 picks in a game.

Joey doesn't get all the blame, but he deserves a lot of it. The guy throws at receiver's feet all the time, he throws too many picks, and he fumbles too much too. He's been rather anti-clutch on top of things. Only 6 game winning drives in 4th quarter/OT in his career. Even Tim Couch had 11, and Cleveland had barely any wins his time as a starter.

because detroit's offense has been so great that he's had the chance to lead game winning drives. by the time the fourth quarter is around they're out of the game. he makes some bad throws, doesn't have a gun for an arm, but has enough arm to be an NFL QB. if you want to knock him for anything knock him for not throwing downfield. but that comes because of a lack of an o-line and he's used to always having to check down to save his life. also, our recievers are apparently made of paper and are always hurt. roy williams stays out of more games than he should because he's "hurt", charles rogers is a head case with a drug problem, mike williams is nothing more than a slot reciever with great hands. but didn't play football for a whole year before this season. after that you get to.... scottie vines? he's been working with a pretty bare cupboard in his time here. And kevin jones, the "number 1" back, doesn't get the carries he should/needs to be effective. so with no run game, no healthy recievers to throw to, no big offensive threats, and defense that's too tired on the field from unsustained drives, leads to a shitty team that's never in games late.

Detroit's defense has not been that bad the last two years, yet they still win just 5 or 6 games. It's the untimely incompletions and just overall poor throws this guy makes all the time. He's not a good 3rd down passer, and his overall game is very weak in terms of yards/attempt. You can't get by in the NFL with a 6 YPA average. For being the #3 pick in the draft if I recall, the expectations are going to be high, and he hasn't even come close to meeting them. Why do you think people always think David Carr is better, despite his numbers not being that much better than Harrington's? Because Joey just sucks, and we all know Carr has NO offensive line, and was stuck with a stupid coach for 4 years.

he throws the balls that are called. I know he sucks and isn't a 3rd pick talent. I've watched him since he got here. he's a mid-grade qb that had a great college career. good. nice. but the fact that he's a poor third down passer has more to do with the fact that on 3 and 8 you're going to pass the ball, so the defense is waiting for it. and seemingly half of the time he's throwing screens because the play calling is shitty. he's been stuck under shitty coaches, a shitty gm, and a shitty owner, and behind a line that plays half-hearted and quit on him this past season. Still, he managed to throw for the 5th most yards in a season in the season just prior to this year. The defense is decent. however they're thin at linebacker, and the ones that are potentially good (boss bailey, teddy lehman) are generally always hurt. we've got 1 good corner, 1 decent corner and bunch of shitty back ups, one saftey (kenoy kennedy) who only likes to hit and not really play solid saftey. they don't get good push off the ball despite having their strength being their d-line. And besides, they let down at the end of games because of how much they're stuck on the field throughout the game because of the lack of a running game to help sustain drives. the lions suck, management sucks, harrington sucks, but get's way too much blame. when you're throwing to david kircus and scottie vines because you've got a WR that doesn't play through pain, another WR that doesn't play, period, an o-line that forget's it's their job to block, and coaches that shortchange easily the most talented offensive player on the roster, kevin jones, out of the carries that he should be getting. The whole team offers no sort of signs that they know what direction they're going in. they show no signs of being committed to winning. but it's not all harrington's fault. is he obsovled from the blame? no. does he deserve all of it? no. there's plenty to go around.

okay.
and those are better teams. i just think he get's more blame than he deserves, and when he does lead the team and play well everyone gives the "eh, the D played well" or "eh, he played well, big deal". he gets little credit for the few times he's played well on this team, and get's more blame than he deserves.

For all this talk about Cutler, he wasn't even the offensive MVP of the game. That one goes to my boy Charlie Whitehurst.

Whitehurst is a talent no doubt, he just needs some years as a backup learning a system. So long as he gets a little bit of extra attention this could be a starter, and in the right system, he could be a quality starter. I wish he'd get some credit.
