Which offseason trade/signing was the best and which will have the greatest positive impact on their team next year?
Poll coming. It's a large one.

Even though I like the moves for Beckett and Crisp, I gotta go with the Mets and Billy Wagner. This was a huge need for the Mets, and they went out and got one of the best. If the Mets win the division and unseat the Braves, he'll be why.

I think if Morris pitches the way he is able to, he will be a great #2 to Schmidt.

aaron rowand in philly. somehow they dumped thome so ryan howard can start AND picked up a great player in rowand.

probably cuz for the money its a bad signing.

Rowand was a good move for both teams. Thome is going to destroy chicago, and Rowand is goign to thrive in philly. I also really like the Beckett deal. The sox got a good young pitcher who is going to get better and we gave up minor leaguers who probably wont match the level Beckett will reach.

i doubt he does much of anything in chicago.

Wagner because Looper is a terrible closer and he's just about automatic. It would make a 5 to 10 win difference.

so the mets will only finish about 5 or 10 games behind the braves this season then.....

i agree because it did 3 things in dumping salary, acquiring a good player in return, and opening a full time spot for the rookie of the year
but i would vote for abraham nunez....ok prolly not but i guarantee he takes 3rd from david bell

Not every injury means the end of a career. DH him.
the rowand deal was pretty incredible. dumping salary + picking up a more valuable player + allowing ryan howard to shine=holy shit the phillies did something right

I bet we can find tons of posts of you saying that the Sox will win the division for sure, or that the Tigers will be garbage, so I suggest you keep your trap shut. Not every prediction is spot on, for the most part mikeford is right on with the shit he says.
This thread makes me sad, back to when the Braves weren't a complete shitbag team. :(

i dont think he was the best offseason acquisition, so my pick was wrong. I think it's hard to argue against Thome for this poll. However, I do think Wagner has been very effective and a big reason why the Mets are having the success they've had. I don't look at this pick and whack myself because I can't understand what I was thinking, or anything similar to that. I wasn't far off and neither were those who picked Damon or B.J Ryan

Yeah, I agree. Thome is the clear winner in this poll because everyone basically said "He's old, he's done." and apparently that's not the case. The people who voted for Delgado and Soriano have arguments too I guess.

Yeah. Good luck with pinning your hopes on a guy who can't play a full season.
Nice work.

Not really, League and Accardo will be good middle relief in the next couple years if not next season. Depending on what they do with Speier, he is a really good set up man and will be for a few more years.
We need to re-tool our horrendous pitching rotation. (Pitchers from 3 to 5)

Oh sweet. Maybe with this stellar bullpen you'll have, you can find some money to replace your best defensive and offensive player and your best leader.

Bronson Arroyo has been a huge pick up for us this year
Bronson Arroyo is above and beyond the best example for league disparity.
Thome has been an absolute monster. 9.8 runs created per game. .413 obp and .615 slg. jesus.
as a side note, im listening to the Mets broadcast right now and I gotta clear something up. They keep talking about how after the trade the Phillies have played so much better....well hello. Rowand was terrible, Lidle gave up 5.3 runs in 6 IP, Bell sucks, and Dellucci has almost filled Abreu's shoes. What did they think was going to happen?
not that im saying I knew a philly surge was coming. I dont care enough to keep tabs on their players, but looking at it now, some of the philly starters were just awful. Gillick had a good trade deadline

Lidle was actually starting to pitch very well. Rowand was never traded. Offensively, Nunez is worst than Bell. Dellucci has been great.
Btw howard just hit 45.

I know Rowand wasn't traded, I was unclear with what I was trying to say. However, Rowand not playing is better for the team than when he is playing. The combination of Victorino and Dellucci has been better than Rowand/Abreu, if you choose to believe that.

Thomas: 7.4 runs created per game
I would say Thomas has been one of the best pick-ups considering his salary.

LoDuca isn't outstanding. How hard was it to trade for Delgado? The Mets were the ones who could take on his salary. The Marlins were just offering him up to the highest bidder, it's not something special they did. He was a nice pickup but he's really underperformed IMO. Hitting .260 with a 70 point drop in OPS from a 1B in his 30s and a couple years left isn't what you want. Wagner keeps getting it done but I question him in the long run with his contract. Nady wasn't solid until the trade, hence the trade. John Maine has been decent but he's most likely nothing special.
You left out the only actual great move by the Mets this year, acquiring Duaner Sanchez.

They were already under contract through arbitration, they just locked up like their first 2 FA years. It really wasn't that great of a move for either side.
