I guess this forum is a better fit than the others...
So I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha, and I was wondering if anyone else had read it and what your thoughts were? I have yet to see the movie.

I read it and liked it a lot. I think the author got an interesting grasp about the geisha culture. Supposedly the geisha that the book was based on was angry about how inaccurate some of the events were and she published her own book, a real auto-biography. I don't remember what it's called but I can probably google if you want to learn more.
I'm not sure how I feel about the book and how it's portraying a whole different society? I'm not japanese, I've never studied the japanese culture. Like a lot of other books, this one came with a lot of controversy about how it displayed females and how it once again pushes asian women into that submissive stereotype. But, yeah, I'm not a tight-ass, I enjoyed the book.. haha.

The book was good. It wasn't poorly written - though the depth (because it was written by an american) lacked a little something.
