See what Paste Magazine had to say about Say Anything (http://www.sayanythingmusic.com)'s ...Is A Real Boy in their March issue below.
Plenty of rockers have gone insane, but rarely as young as Max Bemis, who was not 20 when he checked into a mental institution while making Say Anything's ...Is A Real Boy. Maybe it was the strain of playing every instrument but drums on the lushly arranged album. Or making punk-rock opera poking fun at his own delusions of grandeur. Or all the pot. Whatever caused such anguish, it resulted in a thoroughly absorbing listen. From the power-chord riffs of "Belt" to the synth-infused, hipster-bashing grand finale "Admit It," the epic ...Is A Real Boy definitely deserved this re-release on J Records (the album originally dropped on Doghouse Records in 2004). A surprisingly strong bonus disc, ...Was A Real Boy, features seven more recently recorded songs that catch Bemis at his sexually charged best.

I still can't get over the idea that this is all just a big joke.

Max Bemis sounds like what would happen if that kid from your high school football team who put mayonaise on everything and listened to Papa Roach decided to sing about his feelings. Crazy or not, this guy makes incredibly cheezy and uninteresting music.

i was surprised paste gave this a good review, it seemed out of character for them. personally, this record did nothing for me as a whole, other than a few standout tracks. the rest of it felt drawn out. lastly, listen to the comas.

February 28th.

Its amazing. I was one of the few who got it in October by accident.

Same day as the new Bayside. There is a great day for music.

I wonder how many people who got it from everyone else on here and swore they would buy it when it really came out, actually end up buying it.

I hope quite a bit will. I sold mine on Ebay and then donated some of the money to the Beatz Memorial Fund.

Max Bemis writes some of the most unique lyrics out there today. Is A Real Boy will never get tired for me. It's going to be up there with TAYF for classic albums that define a specific time in my life.

I'm there with you, I had no idea that he recorded everything himself and I've liked them for awhile now! That makes me respect him even more, holy crap!

Almost $70, and you can rip the CD if you use Dell's Music Match software. Thats the only way I was able to get it on my computer.

ive been listening to them for some time now and i never heard he played all the instruments himself. so why would he do that if he really did?

i think max should personally give tate a handshake for the successes this band has seen so far.

There was a quote from him on the cover of the original SA release as well. It was straight out of his review.

Yes he recorded all of the instruments except for drums. Why? Why not? At the time Say Anything was still only officially two members. I'm not sure if the touring band is considered Say Anything now, or if its still just the two of them.

And no Max should not give Tate a handshake for the success of Say Anything. A great band like this would have experienced the limited success they have regardless. I know I didn't find out about Say Anything from absolutepunk (I found out about them a while before AP picked up on them thanks to a Saves The Day fan site that had their cover of Jesse and My Whetstone and a link to their website) and I'm sure there are many others that are the same way. Sure it never hurts to have a great website behind you, but crediting their success to Jason just seems to take away from the band and I think thats a bit unjust.
