Brokeback Mountain is going to win a bunch.
I'm happy Walk The Line didn't even get the nomination for Best Picture - i can't see it winning anything.

As much as I love Crash, Brokeback Mountain will definitely win Best Picture.
As for the others...
Best Director - Ang Lee
Best Actor - Philip Seymour Hoffman
Best Actress - Reese Witherspoon
Best Supporting Actor - George Clooney
Best Supporting Actress - Rachel Weisz
That's not necessarily who I want to win, but who I'm pretty sure will win.

Crash was an amazing movie, we watched it in my English class. I think the opening sequence with Don Cheadle talking about how people are so desperate for one another's touch is the best part of the film.

That list looks right to me however i think Walk the Line and Cinderella Man got ripped off, whatever though atleast one film or one actor get's the shaft every year. I guess they can't nominate every deserving film or the show would be like 9 hours instead of 7.
I think this year will be very interesting with Jon Stewart hosting, i'm sure he's gonna ruffle some feathers.

im excited about John Stewart hosting. it'll be fun. oh and i thought Cinderella Man was royally ripped off. not just in the major awards, but some technical ones too.
oh and i also started a discussion thread (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=111877) in the entertainment forum too. very interesting nominations this morning. a lot to talk about

The hugest and most absolute shame is that Woody Allen received only one nomination and probably won't win. If anyone had paid it any attention rather than focusing on Brokeback Mountain, Match Point would have been recognized as WA's amazing return to (and improvement upon) form and as the true best film of the year.

I vote Murderball for Best Documentary.

I think the fact that sore sphincter mountain is being nominated for so many awards, the fact that it was made even, is a huge indicator of the moral decay in our society. Yes i know that it was a "beautiful" love story blah blah, whatever. ITS DEPICTING GAY COWBOYS CHEATING ON THEIR WIVES TO GO BUFU EACH OTHER IN THE WOODS!!! Did everyone look past this? This is a concept that would have John Wayne rolling in his grave. I am not a homophobe whatsoever. I have no problem befriending a homosexual, i just can't support their lifestyle and definatly am not willing to put forth a cent to watch what they do in their bedroom. Why are there different genders if people feel that it's natural to be homosexual??? Would'nt there just be all men or all women??
Brokeback will win best picture and director. Get over it. It deserves to win, and if you disagree, then you haven't seen it.

I have seen Brokeback and I don't think it deserves to win. As of late, I have been watching a ton of movies, and I don't think Brokeback is the best picture of the year. Crash was better in most aspects concerning directing and plot. Cinderella Man also got completely overlooked. I still need to see a few of these movies in order to make my list, but as of right now Philip Seymour Hoffman really deserves to win for his performance in Capote.

I'm not even picking one of these. Brokeback will win, but the Constant Gardener was the most visuallly stunning film of the year, hands down.
"Batman Begins"
"Brokeback Mountain"
"Good Night, and Good Luck"
"Memoirs of a Geisha"
"The New World"
These were EXTREMELY predictable this year. I wouldn't be surprised if every single thing I picked to win will win. The only surprise was Terrance Howard for Hustle and Flow, who was superb. I'm glad he was nominated. I wish he pulled one Supporting also, for Crash.

Brokeback will win best picture and director. Get over it. It deserves to win, and if you disagree, then you haven't seen it.
Saw it, still could give you a decent list of films I thought were superior. Crash, the Constant Gardener, Munich, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang, Hustle and Flow, Syriana, Cinderella Man, Everything is Illuminated...that's all I got right off hand. Brokeback was a great film, it was moving, emotional, beautifully shot, but it isn't the end all, be all everyone says it is. For my money, give me the Constant Gardener any day.
so, did Sin City not send a screener in? I didnt expect it to get any big noms, but i figured it would have gotten special effects, efiting, makeup, art direction.

I think Crash was the best movie this year. Brokeback Mountain was good, I liked it a lot, I respect everyone involved in that movie, but I think Crash is more important, interesting, and creative. And less cheesy. Except Brendan Frasier was in it and he wasn't very good. And Brokeback Mountain made me cry for like 10 minutes. Munich was really good also.
My favorites this year were: Crash, Brokeback Mountain, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Munich, and Goblet of Fiiireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee woo yeah. To be fair, I didn't see Capote, Constant Gardener, History of Violence, Or Good Night and Good Luck.

Your average CRASH fan:
That gosspy empty-headed chick in high school who was always, like, `relly relly into issues that affect our modern society and how racism and sexism, is, like, SO stoopid and we all should, like, understand each other? And like, `Crash` is so deep because it shows, like, people always blame people who are different color or not like them? So, like, we should all recognise that this movie should win an Oscar for the good of humanity?`
The movie should have been titled "Race Relations for Dummies".
In the end, though, it doesn't really matter as Brokeback Mountain is going to take home the big prize - and deservedly so.
i really don't think crash deserves all this recognition. not at all.

Director? Seriously? As much as I personally disliked BBM, I can appreciate the fact that it does, at least to some extent, deserve to win best picture....but best director?
As much as I like Ang Lee and as amazing as he's been in the past, the award is for the best achievement in directing. That means for the film that has been nominated. Disregarding his other work, then, there's no denying that Lee sets up gorgeous shots in BBM and that he got great performances from Ledger and Gyllenhall, but there's no way he's even close to the directing prowess of the other four nominees for their nominated works. Bennett Miller is by far the youngest of the nominees (he isn't even forty), and Capote is EVERY BIT as touching as BBM, if not moreso.
IMO, Spielberg is the one who deserves it. Munich is a huge step forward for him. Even his other more serious films (Schindler's List, Empire of the Sun, SPR, etc.) follow a bit of the Spielberg formula and are manipulative emotionally, but Munich is his first that's mature and thought-provoking on a separate level. If only because it's his first film that's much more of a "thinker" than it is a "feeler," Spielberg deserves the Oscar.
That said, Brokeback will more than likely get both awards that you mentioned, but, at least IMO, it doesn't DESERVE to win director, and that's coming from someone who has seen it. I could easily argue in favor of any of the other four nominees.

I agree with that, I feel Spielberg really stepped it up. Munich didn't even feel like a Spielberg movie, which was amazing. Not to mention it took a situation that was about as distant for most the viewing audience as possible, and turned it into an inclusive, personal experience. I was riveted by Munich.

Alright, I misspoke before. I do believe Brokeback deserves to win best picture. I generally don't care much for Lee's style, but I thought he was at the top of his game in Brokeback. That said, I'd much rather see Clooney take home best director, but I have yet to see Munich.
Statistically speaking, Brokeback will win both awards, based on the awards it's already won. There's really zero surprises in either the nominess or who will win the big awards.

i just briefly scanned the list.. but i find it really amazing that young actors/actresses that i grew up watching on those cheesy romantic comedy movies are now growing up to be the stars of the future of the movie industry. where people like julia roberts (still a good actress) and robert deniro (still amazing actor) are going to be leaving off.. it seems that a younger generation is now moving in: michelle williams (dawsons creek), keira knightley (bend it like beckam, pirates of the caribbean), heath ledger (10 things i hate about you, the patriot) and so forth.
anyone else know what i mean?

The only reason Brokeback is getting so many nominations is because its got gay people in it. Its just lame. Another failed attempt by the left wing to convince me that being gay is ok.

I'm glad Jake Gyllenhaal got nominated for best supporting actor. He got snubbed at the Golden Globes. Even if he doesn't win, I think it's an honor to be nominated.
