over the fucking STATE OF THE UNION makes me hate America just a little bit more.

the only states the state of the union is beating super bowl media day coverage (GAG) are fuckin alaska and hawaii.

like, jesus christ. are you serious? we dont get enough of this crap on the actual DAY of the superbowl? granted this is a poll on a ESPN, a sports site, but come on. I didnt watch anything involving media day for the past 2 years when MY team was in the superbowl... America admittedly doesn't really care about either of these teams as a whole, yet they'd rather listen to the same trite every other athlete spouts out at the Super Bowl Media Day over something the PRESIDENT has to say?

my brain hurts.

you do realize this is the most devisive(sp?) time in American politics since the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam right? I mean you do realize that whether you agree with Bush or not that this is important right? That decisions that idiot and his party are making WILL affect you and your life in the future. His ridiculous social security program is just one of these types of things. I'd say this is A LITTLE more important than Super Bowl MEDIA DAY.

also, i've got money that says still_life supports Bush.

THe Bush supporter in me says, "People love complaining about what a terrible leader/person he is, but don't know a god damn thing about him, his policies, or the state of America, namely because they'd rather here 40 minutes stories about how jerome bettis is from detroit than get information on the war, the economy, etc. Let's reevaluate our priorities before we accuse Bush of having his priorities messed up."

But that's just the Bush supporter in me...

the bush supporter in you eh? without turning this forum into a political debate, what do you have to say about the fact that Bush singlehandedly turned a 300 billion dollar SURPLUS into the most DEBT this country has ever been in (surpassing the previous amount compiled by Reagan and Bush senior.)

ive always firmly believed the deficit is just a number and that politics is just a formality and is needed to help the country stop from going crazy. the deficit is actually an argument i hate hearing from people, because there's so much better material to complain about with Bush. I did research on the deficit and what exactly it is and how it works for a speech i had to make in my satire class last year, and most interestingly, no matter where i looked no one had a consistent definition for the deficit. I can't imagine whatever the source of this unaccounted for money coming to us and demanding it, and as wrong as it may be that we use our intimidation to get out of things, i mean, hey, whatever works. But, i prefer Clinton over Bush, and i'm not so sure the "deficit" (assume, for a moment, it isn't just a mirage created by the liberal media to add fodder to the Bush fire people love to light) is so much reflecting Bush's incompetence as Clinton's brilliance. You'd be surprised to see the list of liberal presidents who had an enormous deficit, and yes, the number may surpass past amounts, but you have to take into account relative to the worth of a dollar now. now here, in NJ, i personally say fuck the deficit, because we're now going to get taxed on gas and clothes and are going to have our property taxes raised to cover this deficit. with or without the deficit, i see no change, that is until someone comes in and raises taxes to combat it.

mikeford
01/31/06, 11:38 AM
haha. how ironic. your final comment calls for a raise in taxes.

good luck getting that with bush since hes the only president in history to cut taxes during a war. his answer to everything thus far has been to cut taxes.

also, if i hear the words "liberal media" one more time, my brain is going to explode.

It's called a recession, and spending money is a requirement to get out of the hole. Say what you want, but Bush pushed the country out of recession pretty damn quickly if you ask me. The economy is finally stable after tumbling the past few years. Combine that with an ongoing war and it's pretty easy to see why there's such a deficit. After the wars over, things will calm down and most likely start heading back in the other direction.

01/31/06, 11:41 AM

i thought the war ended? wasnt there a speech on an aircraft carrier with a mission accomplished banner? or was that an acid flashback i was having? couldnt be.

The Deficit was created by many different events during the Bush term, two of them being the oh so common recession and 9/11. However, the fact that Americans own most of the debt makes it less of a problem. If it was mostly foreign owned debt, we would be in a lot more trouble.

but what does this have to do with sports? I guess we could argue the business side of sports.....

ive never set foot in the politics forum, i have a feeling theres an overwhelming number of uninformed liberal people who love to voice their opinions and drive with the political traffic that overshadow the liberal people who genuinely know what they're talking about and have a valid opinion. i love getting into debates with people who actually know what they're talking about.

well the original point of the thread was apparently people would rather watch athletes spout rehearsed garbage at MEDIA DAY than listen to the friggin President talk about the state of the country and where its supposedly headed for 2006
