I've been practicing for a while, but I just wanted to know what would help me get better. Songs to sing, stuff like that.

If u dont already u should learn how to sing from your diagram it makes your voice sound fuller and more powerful.... practice your breathing and scale exercises and in time u will improve.

Honestly get the zen of screaming and use the warm ups EVERY DAY. I'm not a soprano, but I decided what the hell, I'd use the soprano exercises to see if I'd get any improvement. I've been doing this almost every day for a year, and well...I used to not be able to sing high at ALL. I was a self proclaimed acoustic only singer. And now I'm in a really poppy indie band fronting it.

Record yourself. That helped me a lot. It's a lot easier to hear your mistakes. Also, listen and try to imitate people you want to sing like. When I say "imitate' I mean try to hit the same notes, watch acoustic videos to watch how they pronunciate words, etc. Just be observant. Do this to lots of people, not just one artist, so people won't think your a rip-off version of a single artist ha. okay, hope I helped :)

"Pronunciate", huh...

Wow.

Well, clearly you didn't want any advice, you just wanted to take the easy road and once someone told you the easiest thing "Omgz, just sing!" that's what sounds good? Enjoy destroying your voice.

As others have said - vocal exercises and warm-ups are important. Use them. Hydrate. If it hurts - STOP and don't keep singing.

Most importantly though, get a teacher. You need a teacher or you could seriously hurt your voice. People can only help so much over the internet - they don't know you, your voice, or how your singing. You need a teacher.

I'll be posting some better advice in a thread of my own - which will hopefully eliminate awful threads like these with horrible advice.

There's such shitty advice on singing in this forum - it makes me nervous. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't give advice. Imitating his favorite singers could potentially be HORRIBLE for him. Most of his favorite singers probably have very bad technique and are hurting themselves by singing like that night after night. Imitating them would be awful.

lol. He's right. You probably shouldn't be listening to me if you wanna sing better.A teacher really does help.
I was just telling you to sing because it's more fun that way if you just wanna sing casually

1. Nope. That's not it.
2. I do this.

An insult disguised as constructive criticism? I've been told by many people that singing songs that are hard for me would make me better. Is that not the case?

? Do you mean diaphragm?
?Why is there a question mark at the beginning of your sentence?

Not an insult at all. I listen to plenty of bands where the singers have poor technique. Just like how some singers smoke - some people will tell you you need to smoke to be a good singer. Does that make sense? So why would you try to emulate a singer who has poor technique and is hurting their vocal cords?

My point is, listening to a recording and trying to sound like it could help you improve. But the effects to your voice could be awful. A good teacher is the only one who can really help you develop good technique and habits.
