I hate when Oscar season comes around and ive only seen a handful of the nominated films. I feel uneducated. When you have only seen one movie that has been nominated for best picture WTF do you do. Its lame. So this year I am going to attempt to watch all 30 of the American (Non Documentary) nominated films. So far I have seen 16 of the 30. So feel free to post which movies youve seen and those you plan to see before the big fucking show.

Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire
King Kong
Batman Begins
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory

I really want to see Good Night and Good Luck and Capote when they come out on DVD. I've seen Walk the Line and loved it. Same with King Kong. Even though it wasn't nominated, I'm looking forward to Syriana when it's on DVD

P.S.
I know it got great reviews, but I never could bring myself to see Hustle and Flow. Am I really missing something there, or is it just 8 Mile but with a much better actor?

I don't think i saw really any movies nominated for anything big. The closest oscar movie i watched was Syriana (which I didn't really follow, but whatever).

Slow year for movies i thought.

i just want to say that i think it is absolutely ridiculous that William Hurt is nominated for his role in A History Of Violence.......he has an on screen time of like 5 fucking minutes and hes not even that great. He was better in The Village.

I see the opposite actually, it was a great year for the smaller mini-blockbuster Indie films. Something like Syriana gets noticed nationally and makes good money.

I've seen about 2/3 of nominated films, basically anything not restricted to just LA/NY. Going to see Brokeback for the second time tomorrow actually.

The New World
Match Point
The Squid and The Whale
Crash
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Batman Begins

That is 14 I think? I plan on watching a few other ones that were nominated, such as The Constant Gardener and Junebug, but I'm not sure if I have the time to see all of them. You should check out some of the documentaries that are up for awards, though, especially Murderball.

My theater doesn't pick up any of the artsy films... i only saw brokeback through other means... and constant gardener on DVD. All we get are mainstream huge blockbusters.

just watched Brokeback Mountain and thought it was excellent, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were amazing. I think Jake is getting the short end of the stick, I though his performance was as just as strong as Ledger's.......people are trying to tell me Jake doesnt deserve the supporting actor nod, but then telling me William Hurt does......total fucking bullshit.

I thought Jake didn't do terribly well.

Especially at the start of the movie... there are some scenes where he's hardly acting well at all.

So I have seen 18 of the 30, although I'm going to rent Junebug this weekend and possibly go see Match Point and/or The New World in theaters this weekend. I will never watch Memoirs of a Geisha, Rob Marshall is a hack, and Mrs. Henderson and North Country are not exactly up on my list of films to see. Oh yeah, and TransAmerica because you cannot get much better in the realm of actresses than Felicity Huffman in my opinion. If you beg to differ, watch the entire series of Sports Night. Then come back and talk and I will hear you out.

i just finished The Corpse Bride and I was incredibly dissappoint because I was a huge fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas even though Tim Burton didnt direct that one. I fell asleep 2 times and i had to go back and pick up where i left off, this was especially sad considering its only like an hour and 15 minutes long.

I could use some serious recommendations though on what movies I should watch next. Check the list of the movies I still have to watch and give me some suggestions. Right now I am debating between Capote, Syriana, and Hustle & Flow.

Out of the list you still have to watch, I would say Transamerica was my favorite. Out of the three you listed that you are debating between my vote goes for Capote.

Why have you decided not to watch the documentaries that are nominated? There are some pretty good ones this year.

Grizzly Man was good, I've heard Murderball was pretty nuts, and I think March has gotten enough hype as it is. Can't say I know who will win though.

Sounds like a fucking good night. Capote is excellent, just saw it. Catherine Keener gets minmized, even though she has a great performance, because Hoffman just basically owns all. It's wierd, you know what is coming towards the end, but it still jolts you

Grizzly Man was on last night at 8:00 on the Discovery Channel, actually. Murderball is fantastic, it was my favorite documentary of the year. I was just curious as to why they were excluded from your little Oscar fiesta.

Actually, IMDB says that Grizzly Man is on tonight at 8, but someone told me it was last night. So I'm not really sure when they're showing it.

Have Seen
Munich (my pick for best picture and my favorite film of 2005)
Good Night and Good Luck
Crash
Hustle and Flow
Walk the Line
Syriana
Cinderella Man
A History of Violence
The Constant Gardener
The Squid and the Whale
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
King Kong
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Corpse Bride
Chronic (WHAT) cles of Narnia
War of the Worlds
Star Wars Episode 3
Batman Begins

So right now i'm at 18 and i plan to see Capote and Wallace and Gromit this week which'll bring me up to 20. I might give Junebug a rental too since Amy Adams is supposed to be so good in it. The really weird one this year is best actress, of which i've only seen 1 nominee and have no interest in the others. And i guess i have to see Brokeback Mountain if i don't want to get labeled a homophobe for the rest of my life (although i was just planning to wait for dvd).

Good Night and Good Luck and The Constant Gardener were two of my favorite movies of 2005, so i'd recommend those 2.
