it was on tv last year too, i do believe.
FSN also had the United Hockey League All Star Game, too. We've got a team in that league that plays like 3 minutes from my house and barry melrose and steve levy own a different team in the league and shit.

We used to have a uhl team in New Haven. The team folded after two years and they immediately tore down the arena.

haha. here in Kalamazoo, we've had a minor league hockey franchise since 1974, I think. ticket sales has been sparse, but have turned around and are doing very well for the last few years.

wow, that's a long time. They couldn't give tickets away in New Haven, there would be like 100 people in an 8,000 seat arena that was completely falling apart, it wasn't a good situation. Any city that can keep a minor league team for 32 years deserves a lot of credit.

it's also allowed me to see players such as: Marty Turco, Manny Fernandez, Jaime Langenbrunner, Grant Marshall, Peter Buzek, Mark Lawrence, former NHLer Peter Zezel, Richard Matvichuck, Trent Klatt, and got to watch Ken Hitchcock as a coach.
Also, Western Michigan University's here too, so they've put out people like Keith Jones, Mike Eastwood, Jamal Mayers, Joe Corvo, Glen Healy, David Gove (in Carolina's system), and Vince Bellissimo (on the FLA Panter's AHL team). it's a nice city for hockey.

well, most of those were back before the IHL folded. the IHL was basically what the AHL/ECHL are today. we've been in the UHL for only about 4 or so years.
But when the IHL was around, we had those players and the Detroit Vipers had guys like Kevin Weekes and Sergei Samsonov and such. it was a good state of minor league hockey here throughout the 1990's.

oh yeah, i remember when the IHL folded and a bunch of team joined the AHL, the league pretty much exploded.

yeah, they benefited alot. I like minor league hockey. but i like college hockey the most. college > NHL > Minor League... that's how it goes for me.

we have 5 UHL teams (Kalamazoo, Muskegon, Flint, Port Huron, and Redford a.k.a. Motor City [the team that had three red wings play for them last year]), an AHL team (Grand Rapids), an OHL Junior team (Saginaw Spirit) and the Red Wings. Plust 5 D-1 college hockey teams in the lower peninsula, and three more in the upper peninsula. that's a lot of fucking teams.

It's definitely been on for the last five years at least because I remember watching Handzus play for the Worcester Ice Cats, and it's been a while since he played for them.

I used to be able to watch every Rochester Americans game and see what these guys could offer the Sabres until Empire folded and MSG took over Sabres broadcasting meaning Sabres games are the only things MSG have to offer us upstate New Yorkers....I guess it could be worse, we could be forced to watch Rangers games.
Therefore its hard for me to follow and care about the AHL or any kind of AHL All-Star Game now.

Yeah it wasn't the most fun thing in the world watching the Sabres lose, but I'll take it over any Rangers game happily.
They've televised this game in Canada for years...It's a good game to watch imo
