So I've got a Japanese test today, I don't know why I took it. It's a shitload of material to cover and it's relatively hard... the basics of the language, like structure in terms of verbs, nouns and adjectives are pretty simple, but learning Hiragana (which happens to be the most basic form of writing in Japanese), is proving to be harder than I thought.

Hai.
It seems very intimidating, but it wasn't for me. And Hiragana is easy as hell, it's mostly rote memorization, but it's a small alphabet. Katakana looks almost the same, so no worries there.
If you can get it, try to find Japanese for busy people. it helps out a lot.

Haha, kind of late to come to this thread, but I took it. It was like four years ago though and my 2nd year teacher sucked so I forgot a lot of stuff, I remember the alphabets pretty well still though, I think.

Hey, yeah, I'm a little late for this, but yeah. I'm a dumb ass newbie, too, so, whatever.
I'm in my 4th semester of Japanese, so I can kinda help some things, but, probably not at all. I think I get good grades because I can really look like I try, even why I don't at all.

It can be obnoxiously hard. I have a great professor, so that helps. Grammar wise it isn't incredibly complicated, there's just some really wierd things about it. The only really hard thing is the words are not going to sound like anything she's used to. And the alphabets are pure memorization.
I guess if it's something she's interested in and she's willing to really study it, then she should do fine. I hoped I helped somewhat . . .

Hiragana is easy to learn. And once you've got that down then learning katakana should be a breeze.

I heard on the news the other day that Japanese is easier for dyslexic people to learn, since it's symbol based?
