"The team we have, we're going to be competitive, Gillick said Tuesday as the team continued its winter tour with a stop at Citizens Bank Park. Are we going to win the division? No. We have to improve."

He said that on Sports Center last night, also stressed that they need pitching upgrades.

Although I think the whole "we wont win the NL East" thing is both a mix of something you shouldn't say/nice to be realistic at the same time... I'm wondering if people higher than Gillick are holding him back from making decent moves?

*sigh*

I just want to see the Phillies in the playoffs before I die.

too bad the mets have a better shot then the phillies to make it this year

with the addition of delgado wagner lo duca the mets will win atleast 5-10 more games then they did last year

we all know how it ends up

when you dont have a first baseman who can produce on a CONSTANT basis a centerfielder who had an injury ridiculed year a closer who blew more saves then a hooker blows cocks and a horrible second baseman(get rid of kaz) your going to loss a lot of games

i blame that on ed wade, he should have locked him up during the season last year...but then i was thinking maybe its good if they let him go cuz they can use his money, but they didnt

i read an article saying that the phillies are waiting for 2007, when bell, leiberthal, cormier, and a few other horrible contracts come off the books, to make moves...that was contigent upon trading abreu or burrell and freeing up even more money, and the money they saved this year from getting rid of thome and not resigning wagner, and then they would go for the kill in free agency next year, where there will be a huge market

yup, ed wade fucking drove this team into the ground... I give him SOME credit though

I mean rollins, howard, and utley are a good young core.

the whole 2007 thing makes sense though that's why for as many questionable moves gillick has or has not made.... I think most are feeling the idea that the dead weight from the ed wade era has to be cleared first before they put together a team that can really contend

then again, this years team isn't THAT much different than the team that won 88 games last year so who knows

burnitz and piazza were supposed to do that also.

The phils will finish 86-76 again just like 3 of the past 5 years.

We have a good young core though and we'll have $$ to fill those holes, but in philly, baseball is really followed from the end of the flyers run in the playoffs until 2 weeks before nfl training camp and then @ the end of the season if the team is fairing well. The Phillies need to do something year to year to keep people in the seats. A nice stadium does not do that by itself.

I gurantee some how the braves are going to walk away with the division title. it justs the way nature intended things for the NL East
