ya me too. it's just not the same without them there, and it hurts because I know they should have beaten the Broncos and they would have beaten the Steelers and gone on to win this thing. It didn't happen that way, and it sucks. No doubt they'll make a run for it next year though.

walter jones is the premier left tackle in football regarded by many as one of the best left tackles ever.

you don't allow 1 sack in the last 2 seasons purely by chance. porter will make an impact just not when he's matched up against walter jones.

all that aside though, this looks to be an excellent game between two balanced teams so we should be in for quite the game.

I agree. The Seahawks are a balanced team. However, I believe that Pittsburg D( who has the best D Corr. in football) will shut down Alexander(under 75 yds.) and force Matt Hasslebeck to win the game. Now let me see who do I like in the matchup between Hasslebeck vs Troy Poluma(spelling?) I'll take Troy and the Steelers in a defensive game 20-17.

By the way, I'm an Eagles fan and just want to say with no TO next yr and a healthy D-Mac, watch out:)

I think alot of this game hinges alot upon Hasselbeck's ability to pickup the steeler's blitz and audible at the line. The Steeler's run defense is great so I see Alexander having a good game, but not breaking anything too be just be effective in opening up the pass for Seattle. Polamalu is a gambler and likes to jump routes and make big plays which can be exploited although we haven't seen anyone do an effective job so how exploitable this is, lies in question.

On the opposite side, I think seattle will take away the deep pass only rushing 4 and 5 at times, forcing Roethlisberger to settle for the short pass and make the Steeler's rely on their rushing attack. A big question in my mind wonders whether the Steelers will feel obligated to get the ball to Jerome moreso than usual seeing as this is most likely his final game.

Both teams are very effective in the red zone, although Seattle is the only team to rank in the top 5 in both red zone offense and defense. My prediction is a hardfought nailbitter that comes down to the wire: Seahawk 27, Steelers 24.

I'd love to hear anyone else's thought as long as it has something to offer, cause we've all got to remember we're fans and no one's opinion is going to make us abandon our teams, good luck and here's to what should hopefully be the most exciting game of the year.

I agree. If Hasslebeck doesnt pickup the blitz he will get killed, much like Manning(cough:choker:cough). The Seahawks only faced one 3-4 defesne front this year and that was the game against Dallas Cowboys, which they got that gift of an interception and ended up winning. I believe the Steelers 3-4 D is goin to cause problems not only for Hasslebeck but also for that line which is going to have a hard time figuring out who is coming from where. The Steelers are a lot like the Eagles in they will blitz from anywhere and everywhere with different ppl.(corners, lbs, safties, overloads, etc.) If Alexander doesnt soften that rush up some then watch out.

However, if Alexander can just get 3 or 4 yds. and force the Pitt DL and LB to respect the run then I can see the Seahawks pulling this out. The Steelers do not have the strongest secondary in the NFL and if they can somehow get some time for Hasslebeck to throw the ball, then like I said Seattle can pull this out. But I dont see it happening. the Steelers will come out with a masterful D plan and if they score early then they will release the dogs and it'll be all over.

I think it'll be a close game like I said before with the Steelers winning.

I completely agree. They got to shore up that front 7 ( get Will Witherspoon for WIll LB from the Panthers and either trade up and draft Mario Williams at DE, John Abraham DE Jets, or Rocky Benard DT Seahawks(what I'm pulling for) And they also need to do their best to get a possession receiever opposite Reggie Brown( word is Eric Moulds will be cut by the Bills becaue of a 10 mil bonsu due ) so if that is so I'd love to land him for a yr. or 2 he still has it:)

I think it'll be a close game like I said before with the Steelers winning.

You have to remember, the "gift" of the interception still has to be caught and returned, and the kicker still had to make a 50 yard field goal to win. That wasnt handed to Seattle, they won it.

Also, hopefully the Steelers do not play like the Eagles because Seattle put up 42 points on that D..but, they are better than them, however, Seattle's offensive line is much better than anything the Steelers have faced before. I am sure the Steelers will get a couple sacks, but overall the line will hold. I think the Seahawks will stop the run completely and will force Ben to throw on them.

Im expecting Alexander to grind out 25 carries for around 80-85 yards and a score. Hasselbeck will be solid with 250 yards 2 TDs, 1 int.

I think it will come down to a field goal, final score 27 - 24

Hahaa... let's get this shit heated!!!

Score predictions?

Bettis wont be a factor. Seattles line is too good. Seattle has too many offensive options for Pittsburg to plan for. Seattle wont give up on the run if its not working early, theyll force Pittsburg to play honest, and set up the run with the pass out of three receiver sets.

Pittsburg will be tough, they have some weapons but after a few scores Seattle will adapt. Run game will be 0 for them.

27-24 Seahawks.

the only reason hasselback looks good is because he's got guys like Bobby Engram (drafted originally as a bear) catching the ball on the other end. engram's got speed that most receivers dont. unfortunately, the ball isn't thrown to him nearly enough.

Testaverde and Ferrot both suck as bad as hasselback - and testaverde can't stay healthy for a full season anyway.

Harrington has potential to be good if he'd pull his head out of his ass and stop closing his eyes when he throws the ball. The lions were only ever good when they had Barry Sanders anyway.

agreed i have no problem with getting outplayed such as the sonics were last year by the spurs. by the officiating was so one sided, the calls came at pivital moments in seattle drives and i don't frankly remember a single steelers penalty in the 2nd half. i wish officials would let the players decide the outcomes in big games, because games like this make you really question the what ifs, whereas just strictly getting outplayed doesn't. oh well, i suppose its just another one of the many times seattle has been subject to blown calls this year.

The ball just has to break the plane. It doesnt have to go into the endzone. The PI call would have been JUST as bad against Pitt had it not been called. The holding was on Haggans who would have sacked Hasselbeck otherwise. They HAD to call those penalties.

I just hope the refs bet ALOT on the game and got their moneys worth, because by all indications (according to sources inside the NFL - as reported by espn radio) these guys won't be working another NFL game in their lives.

Amen Frank. Good lord, what a bunch of sore losers. The bad officiating wasn't just in the Super Bowl, it's plagued the entire season. Aside from that, there were bad calls on both sides of the ball and if you think the Steelers wouldn't have scored on the next down even if the Roethlisberger TD had been called back, you're an idiot. Steelers won and Jerome Bettis got to retire on the highest note he possibly could have.

Where are these bad calls on both sides of the ball you idiots are talking about? Jesus Christ. Open your eyes. The steelers had 3 penalties the entire game and 2 of them were false starts. Everything wrong, bad, or questionable went against Seattle - PERIOD.

palisadevoice
02/06/06, 02:36 PM
As far as the "bad calls" everyone is talking about, how many of them were actually bad calls? The Roethlisberger touchdown was inconclusive and I dare anyone to say they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that ball did or did not cross the plane. The pass interference on Jackson was just that. Regardless of it being a prissy call, you're not allowed to make contact beyond 5 yards. Period. The holding calls were justified. I think the Hasselbeck fumble was a lame call. Either way, I agree the Steelers got more calls in their favor than the Hawks did but it frustrates me that everyone is saying this game was fixed. This isn't wrestling. The Steelers won and they had a lot harder of a road to travel to get there than the Hawks did. Maybe if Jackson had paid more attention to where his feet were there could have been a couple more scores for the Hawks...

Jesus Christ people, stop whining about the officiating. Besides, the ruling on the field was that Big Ben got the touchdown, and if there is not enough evidence to overturn it, then the ruling stands so get over it fuck. Refs make bad calls every now and then(i.e. TWo bad calls against the Steelers in Indy), it happens so get over it. Point is, the good teams always find a way to win, and on this day, the Steelers won fair and square and you can't say they didn't deserve to win this year.

TheGreenSeas
02/06/06, 04:45 PM
Sure, blame it on the refs when your team chokes and plays like shit...The seahawks had:

numerous dropped passes
2 missed field-goals
about 4 catches out of bounds
terrible clock management at the end of the 1st half
converted 1 of 3 red zone attemps
got sucked in on a pee-wee trick play (which they should've known was coming)
let up a 75 yard run (the longest in superbowl history)

I dont want to hear anymore bitching about the refs...the seahawks clearly played a bad game. (the steelers played bad also, but great teams find ways to win even when things aren't going well.)

Roethlisberger's touchdown clearly touched the tip of the goal line. Where were they going to spot the ball? - the one inch line? Cower said he would've went for it on fourth down anyway.

Next, the offensive pass interference call was a weak penalty and a slight push-off that rarely gets called but technically, it is STILL a penalty based on the rule.

Lastly, the holding/tackle call was called even before hasslebeck threw the ball. If the pass was incomplete, holding still would've been called and nobody would be saying a word about the penalty. Even iff there was no penalty on the play, is first and goal from the 2 yard line a guaranteed touchdown? NO!

How can anyone believe that 3 calls affected the outcome of the game??? (can you see the future of what would have happened? NO!!!) Quit crying and realize what actually happened during the game.

relientj428
02/06/06, 05:13 PM
if one call against seattle takes one of their touchdowns away, and a bad call gives pittsburge an extra touchdown when they CLEARLY did not cross the line, then yeah, i'd say that effects the game just a little bit.
anyone who is actually proud of pittsburgh wins and wants to argue that they won fairly, i assume your eyes were violently removed by some sadistc "saw" like characters and that you just live your life in total oblivion to what is really going on. so i actually feel sorry for you.
here's my point, for the second time. i cam in not caring about either teams. but the seahawks were OBVIOUSLY getting screwed. so i started rooting for them. it is true that they did somes stupid things, but they outplayed the steelers. but, i'll admit, who knows? even if the refs had actually refused the bribery money and actually called an unbiased game, pittsburgh maybe still would have pulled it off. but they did not pull if off fairly last night. the game was not decided by any of those teams, it was the refs. and so we'll never know for sure who deserved to win that superbowl.
and if i was steelers, that would piss me off too.
if the cowboys had one any of their superbowls this way, i'd be freakin ashamed.

I don't think there's really any way for this argument/discussion to ever end amicably. I'm proud of the Steelers because they had a really hard schedule and they were able to come out on top. It's a shame the Super Bowl wasn't officiated more justly but name a game in the '05 season that was. Hopefully next year the officials do a better job of what they get paid to do; Being non-biased and eagle-eyed. Regardless, the Lombardi trophy couldn't have been given to a more deserving team or a more respectable group of guys.
