Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw didnt show up for the Super Bowl MVP Ceremony prior to the game because they wanted more money. Montana even went as far to demand $100,000 to show up even though all expenses were paid and they were given a 1,000 of free cash. Considering they were HONORING them and everyone else could show up, I find this to be disgusting.

Am I overreacting? What are other people's thoughts on this?

yeah thats luda, considering bradshaw would have gotten the ovation of a lifetime (like swann, and harris) for being a steeler great

that is bad...but i'm more sickened by the thought with James Brown leaving fox next year, the rumor is Bradshaw will be the head guy and Deion will take Terry's place. Those 4 together might be a siezure waiting to happen.

I now hate joe montana....free tickets to the super bowl, all expenses paid, + money, and being honored in front of a potential audience of 1 billion people. What a bitch. They should have had dan marino take his place. Bradshaw was just pissed he couldn't do the pregame.

they were talking about this on ESPN Radio. they said Montana had told them he had to go back to see his son play a basketball game, but they were looking into the claims about wanting more money. kinda shitty if it's true though. But if the thing about his son is true, it's understandable.

that's some bullshit. they should have expenses paid, that's all. No $1,000 to get honored and cheered by thousands of fans. Athletes just make me lose respect for them.

James Brown is leaving the Fox Pre Game show? ... I guess that i'll just abandon all pregame shows then.

That pisses me off, but i hate Terry Bradshaw...

however, it pisses me off MORE that the Detroit/Steeler fans booed some of the Super Bowl MVPs...that is so classless

Welcome to detroit.

i heard about montana wanting more money to do it, but i heard bradshaw's reasoning was to be with family.

if that's the case, i'm only looking negatively at joe montana. he would have done the coin flip instead of brady. imagine the ovation he would have gotten.

bradshaw would have gotten a huge one too, but if family's the real reason, i can respect that. as much as i'd have loved to see him there as (being a lifetime steeler fan), i can respect wanting to be with family.

what's most bothersome though, is that both of them were in detroit all week, so it's not like it would have been out of their way.

I agree with you about the family thing. but asking for more money? c'mon, they shouldn't have even gotten ANY money to show up.

that's what bothered me. these guys weren't sitting by a bed in hospital after there kids had surgery or something, lol ..Bradshaw often does the Pre-Game show and Montana would have shown up if they ponied up more dough. I think it sucks that they would disregard a ceremony like that where everyone else was able to show up regardless of other obligations.

I'm glad that they didn't give him money. none of these guys should have been paid. you don't pay someone to attend something where they're being honored. that's bullshit.

Having Deion Branch, Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, and Larry Brown in the same building together was a slap in the face to the Steelers. I'm glad they booed.

Montana bothers me here, because that's a ridiculous fucking price just to walk out on the field to be honored.

no it was not, it was honoring Super Bowl MVP's. it's not their fault that the Steelers sucked too much to beat those guys.

I don't think Ray Lewis has ever done anything in a meaningful game against the Steelers. Only one you could say is the Ravens are the only reason the Steelers didn't go 16-0 in 04.

Larry Brown is just a joke of a player. He never had another INT in his career after that night.

The Patriots...well, that's been well documented here.

Personally, the fact that Montana asked for $100k just to show up, sickens me. This game gave him his celebrity status and he shouldn't disrespect the game back by saying he's special and deserves more, while other guys get $1k for showing up. There's a story he wanted to see his son play basketball or something, but this was a special event, the 40 year anniversary. Bart Starr and some of the others probably won't be around for the 50th anniversary, so this was important.

As for Bradshaw i'm not surprised, he doesn't have a relationship like Lynn Swann or Franco Harris does with the city of Pittsburgh, he admitted it himself on PTI. But still, his old team was playing in the superbowl, he should have been there. Hell, he was in Detroit the week before, why not stay? He said he wanted to watch the game with his family, which is no excuse because he could have watched the game with his family, from the sidelines or a press box.

I feel athletes have a responcibility to the sport they played, the sport they helped make popular and a sport that is the only reason they are famous now.

I didn't say they were the best players, just saying the Steelers weren't good enough to beat that team and they just so happened to be representing that team as the MVP of the Super Bowl. I agree though, the Larry Brown MVP was horrible, he caught 2 INT's that were basically thrown right to him...

What the fuck? The NFL gave them and their families so much. They can't even show up? This makes me think some of these guys are classless. MVPs being booed also was wrong.

I agree. I got sick to my stomach almost when they booed Roger Staubach. Sure, the Steelers/Cowboys had some battles back in the day, but come on, how long ago was that?
