Brand New. They have this really cool song about being pissed at a girlfriend and her head going through a windshield because she's not wearing her seatbelt... classic! And they are feuding with another unsigned LI band, they're called Taking Back Sunday. Mics are for singing! (or swinging)

thats not entirely true. excerpts from the song are from a phone conversation jesse lacey had with john nolan.

Listen to Envy on the Coast, they aren't unsigned but I could care less. They are amazing live and really down to earth great dudes.
long island used to be the breeding grounds of great music like brand new, tbs, the movielife, envy, glassjaw...did the talent pool dry up? is all thats left powerpop and cookiecuter "we the kings" "all time low" wannabes?

Lol you two are 18 and 19 years old. In years? You had that great taste in music when you were 15?

There's a band from my town, they're really new (like they've been together for only a few weeks). I think that they're pretty good.

I'm not sure if they have a myspace, you could look more into it if you like them though.

Gabriel the Marine was mentioned already but they are amazing!
Life Between Sleep was awesome. I don't really know what is happening with them, though.
They're a re a lot of good recent bands from LI like Incendiary (Hardcore), Last Call Brawl (Oi/Crust), The Fad (Ska/Punk), Bomb The Music Industry! (Ska), A.S.O.B. Etc. Everyday bands from LI drop the Pay-to-play girl-pant auto-tune bullshit, we get closer to the scene that was on LI 8-10 years ago. Hell there's a band from LI called Team Havok that I just found on the Self Promotion forums that has a new and original sound. Just because a lot of the shit that killed the scene started here, doesn't mean the scene isn't coming back with a vengeance.

Can't say that LI has a great music scene right now.

scene turned to garbage just as I came of age. dumb metalcore kids (that appropriated the 'hardcore' tag, unfortunately) dominate whatever is left.

to sort of answer the question, a band called Disco Vietnam has a cool track or two. another ska-punk type act, The Homecoming Queens, is pretty decent. though I'm not 100% sure if either or both of them are technically unsigned right now, I don't follow them very closely.

not to start shit with you, but if you feel that way, bring something new. i'm not from long island but i'm just saying, if you think it sucks, make a change.

Great band and good friends of mine. They used to be a hard rock styled band with pop-punk elements, but they got a new singer and now they're more like an emo/rock band.

When I was in high school and all the unsigned bands from LI used to play near me in North Jersey, I'd have answered with Taking Back Sunday, BRand New, and the Movielife. Guess none of them qualify anymore, so I guess I'm unable to help.
