Ive heard it used alot, but what exactly is it?Like New Found Glory or Good Charlotte?

It's bullshit mainstream music. Pop-Punk is Avril's stupid ass...or Good Charlotte / Goldfinger...It's all wahsed out, studio-made crap and it should all burn...
Pop rock, mostly sung about the opposite sex(Ok, always sung about the opposite sex) mostly boring and unoriginal. Every "punk band" on the radio minus afi.

music where anybody can pick up a guitar and play it. i like some of that stuff but musically it's not that good. but some of lyrics are pretty catchy.

And the bassist in the band never touched one till his friends decided to make a band and said,"Hey you can play bass, its easy." So then they sound like the guy from nfg and all that crap. I was gonna say mark hoppus but he played bass before hand.
Bass is easier to start than guitar. But harder to master.

So if a band records in a studio, and it happens to be mastered and mixed well, then its crappy pop-punk?

shucks Have you ever heard any of the bands like NFG and Good Charlotte play live? The singing sucks majorly, even more so than what they do to it in the studio. Every band basically records in a studio. I'm sure most bands master their songs. But when they completly change the sound of something for the band in the studio, it's just stupid.

yea i hear that.. sorry i havent seen them live... but most bands do 'cheat' in their recordings with extra vocals or guitar tracks.. theirs nothing wrong with that.. so is it how popular a band gets that determines if it is pop-punk? maybe their popular becasue they are good?!? (im not defending anyband here)

No. As long as the music isn't "studio-made". Don't take my words out of context. He asked what poppunk was, and I told him. I am not speaking of any other genre of music. Learn a bit of reading comprehension before you try to take what I say and twist it around. ;)

i agree with most of this stuff about the nfg poppunk bands...but pop has been around for a long time, and was it wasnt a big deal before it became the "big thing" it is now.
bands like nofx and...the mr t experience...were playing pop punk for years, and it was awesome.
to say that all pop punk sucks isnt really fair...it can be done right, its just really rare.
just thought of a good example of pop punk...

don't compare lagwagon to NFG (or any other crappy trl "punk" band) ever. the guys in lagwagon are good at the instruments they play. NFG play three chords in a different order and call it a new song. they're lyrics are a hell of alot better too.

The only pop punk I can stand is Sugarcult, and I still don't like them very much. NOFX was good, but I downloaded most of the songs off the new ep and they just sucked, I'm sorry.

pop punk just has a different sound to it. it has a sound for selling more than just for the music. pop punk is good, in my opinion, and most pop punk is more popular than regular punk becuz it sounds different.

"pop" originally came from "popular" but over time, y'know, new meanings for it came about. it probably means "likely to be mainstream".
I don't mind pop-punk that much. it's catchy. i can't help it. don't hurt me lol. Depends on wht bands you're talkin about. Some are good at playing pop-punk and some just down right suck.
i think pop punk is great. but hey, one look at my avitar and you could tell that. that would be differnt if i could get a grinspoon avitar tho. anyone heard of them???

Pop-punk is 20 times better than "real" punk.
For example: Lyrics.... pop-punk usually has far better, more meaningful lyrics than all the "Hey, I'm a rebel now give me a record deal" type punk.
Face it. Rebel punk.... aka "real" punk is pure shit. And to like music based on the type (punk/rock/pop/rap) is gay. If you like it than so-be-it. LABELS ARE FOR CANS!
