I think it'd be awesome for this scene if they won such a huge award. They've worked really hard to get to where they are and while you may not like them, they haven't compromised themselves one bit in the process. If you don't like them now, you most likely didn't like them when TTTYG was out. If you don't like them now because you think they sold out, but whored TTTYG to anyone with ears, then you're as fake as you say they are.

I like the albums, hate the live show, but love the spotlight they're forcing mainstream music to put on a lot of great bands. Good luck FOB.

honestly, i can't stand john legend, but he'll probably win simply because he's the artist all the crappy overrated music magazines think should win. for whatever reason people worship that guy...i guess it's just not my cup of tea. FOB deserves something, i mean if there were a runner up trophy they should get it. i think busting your ass paying over around 300 shows a year qualifies you for at least some formal and credible recognition. and the rest of those dumpchests dont deserve it at all. keane wrote like 2 decent songs, ciara...didnt she used to be a dude or am i thinking of someone else? and who the hell is sugarland anyway??

Excellent points here. I couldn't agree more with the comparisons between FUtCT and TTTYG. They play the same style of music on both albums.

why do people say they don't deserve it? they sold the massive amount of records, they put in serious time on tour, they won over millions of fans, made two great music videos...they did exactly what it takes to win an award for excellence. i think it would be amazing if they got recognized for what they have done this past year. i loved them when they were small and i love them now that they are big. regardless of whether or not they win, my hats off to these guys for making me dance.

i don't think they deserve it because i think they are absolutely horrible live. i have seen them probably 4-5 times, from music fests to club tours, and not once did they seem to mesh well together on stage. anybody can do spinkicks and jump around on stage, but the music itself is more important to me than stage presence. christ, if you want stage presence, you should check out bad luck 13 riot extravaganza. (although i think they are done playing shows). fob singer's voice is horrible live, the guitars kind of play randomly, hitting wrong notes. you may disagree, but i feel the live show is the most important part/aesthetic of a band. hell, even blink-182 sounded better live. and outside of that, all you have left is a few CDs from a band that's music has been recycled over and over, countless times. throw in some 20 word song titles and some lyrics that cleverly run circles around death, suicide, and revenge, and you have fall out boy. then on top of that, add some feuds with other mainstream bands and post a blog about how hard your life is. i'm sorry, they just seem to ooze from the vag with fakeness. but then again, i think award shows are pretty lame in general.

I'm not to big a fan of Fallout Boys, but I'm am happy they are nominated. At least this way we'll have more independent artists who instead of singing other peoples songs and playing other people's music, write their own. With them and Death Cab for Cutie getting bigger, true songwriters and artists are becoming the mainstream.

Thank You, I feel that completely. FOB has been doing it for years, they've toured every possible venue they could, went to every country they could, and tried to make music that could relate to everyone. Their just as qualified as everyone else out there to win a grammy. They're as humble as any superstar group can get. They love their fans, and never talk smack on anyone. After everyshow they would go out into the crowd and sign autographs and talk with the kids until everyone was gone. Pete tries to interact with his fans through his journal and Qand A's. They work just as hard as next guy trying to make a living. They just happened to get bigger because people simpily liked their music. Big Deal. It will be when FOB eventually fades away during a certain gap, where real FOB fans stick with them (hence the time when Green Day wasn't cool anymore). For reasons some of you "hate" them, I'll never know. Its one reason to just not like their music (understandable). But to "hate" them for what? Hates a strong word for four kids trying to just make music. Give it some thought.

Not really, the grammys would've nominated Good Charlotte and Simple Plain in 2003 if that was the case.

Fountains of Wayne got nominated in 2003 because their album got incredible reviews. Sure, that "Stacy's Mom" song helped them a bit but it wouldn’t have been enough for the grammy voters if they had been a shitty band with a terrible album.

and John Legend said that he wanted to win all the awards. Kinda cocky, but he still deserves it.
