Ready at Most - Ready at Most
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: April 5, 2009

Who?

Sarasota, Florida natives Ready at Most are young band in pretty much every sense of the word. Members Alec Simon and Raf Chase recently graduated high school, and the band itself was born in the January 2009. Though the band has released mainly acoustic tracks thus far (bass, rhythm, and lead guitar spots in the band are yet to be filled), and the majority of these were probably recorded in a band members’ bedroom, they show a striking potential for growth with their nice, sweet brand of pop.

How is it?

Opener “Sophia Marie,” written for someone close to the group, contains an amazing guitar line and the lyrics make it worthy to be an ode to someone special. Up next is “Catching Up,” which catches the confusion that sometimes accompanies being in a relationship and features some great lyrical and vocal work by Simon (“Our time is running out on us/so catch up before it’s too late”). “Breathe Easy,” a song written for singer/guitarist Alec Simon’s current girlfriend, features some sweet strumming and great vocals rounded out with a great chorus, and the lyrics are enough to make even Ebenezer Scrooge’s heart melt (“Breathe in easy/just to let me know/that you’re forever mine”). “Took It” is the final song, and though it is short and sweet (about forty seconds), it is the only song on the album to feature a “full” band. The song's use of a full band would’ve made it a highlight if it had been a little longer. Regardless, it makes for the perfect closer to this marvelous effort.

Overall, this is a strong effort from a relatively new band. Their sweet, catchy pop music is refreshing and breathes life into an often over-played genre. Also, though it is fairly obvious that the band recorded these songs in their basements, the low-key production only serves to add to the group’s charm (hence, the relatively high production score), with the possible exception of the annoying static present on “Sophia Marie.” Highlights of the effort include “Catching Up,” and “Breathe Easy.”

All Time Low, NeverShoutNever, Paramore, Relient K, sweet acoustic pop
