View Full Version : Im headed to Basic Training Tomorrow

Just like the title says. I'm headed off to basic training tomorrow for the Army.

I'm nervous, but wicked pumped and excited at the same time. I know sort of what to expect, but not really. But i feel it's really going to be a good, life-changing experience for me, as i sort of need an attitude adjustment, and i'll have a steady paycheck for the next 4 years of my life. It will also give me more opportunities than i could have gotten in college or work life. And i'll meet a lot of new people.

My question is: If anyone on here has gone through basic training for the army, what was your experience with it? Was it hard? Fun? Easy? Tell me so i'll have SOME idea.

I'm going to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for basic training. And for my AIT i'm headed to Pensacola, Florida in August.

Haha well i had all my paperwork and everything ready to go and ready to sign, but then the Marine recruiter around here got promoted and the guy that got my paperwork told me he didn't need any more recruits

And i figured the next best thing for me since i'm intelligence was the Army. It's better than the Navy or Air Force, and i'm going to be Special Forces in about a year or 2, once all my training is complete. haha

Lol come on, you can't hold my Noob stuff against me can you? I was dumb and naive back when i joined AP. I've done a lot of growing up in the past 3 or 4 months.

I would LIKE to play football, but like you guys had said. There's a slim to none chance that i'd ever get anywhere with something like that, even semi-pro since i have no prior school experience.

I've talked to him a few times since he's left, and it definitely seems like he's enjoying it and getting a lot out of it. As long as you're willing to commit to it, it's nowhere near as hard as you might hear.

In that post about football i was saying i wanted to play semi-pro football once i got out of the army. If anyone actually cared to read the thread if still in existence.

And the recruiter really did tell me he didn't need me. Because he was new, and had "met his quota" already. A national guard recruiter told me the same thing. He said recruiters have no need to recruit people once they hit their quota for the year. I'm not lying to you, i wouldn't say that if someone didn't tell me that.

And i'm not lying to impress you. I'm in the army, i'm a counter-intelligence agent, i'm going to ranger and airborne school after my basic and AIT, and once i turn 21 i'm going to the training academy to try to become a green beret. These are all truths. I'm also already an E-3(Private First Class) as i got promoted a month ago for completing my pre-basic task list.

Not sure about how the Army does things, but when I signed my five year contract to join the Marine Corps I enlisted under the stipulation that I join as a 5900 Electronics Technician (a basic MOS that branches into a few dozen others). And, a few thing he said were true. The army has met its recruiting quota for the year, at 104% of what they wanted to bring in. That being said, some people are being turned away from joining. You can also pick your job and have it guaranteed in your contract, provided you make it through the training satisfactorily. For his job he'd have to make it through the Special Forces course, which isn't easy in the least.

And 75 of 99, meh. I got a 95.

Basic at Ft. Jackson was a complete joke... all I heard going in was "Relaxin' Jackson" and it seriously was just that. The worst thing was the gas chamber, everything else was a cake walk. But I hear that they change the cycles out and that we had an "easy" one, with our 1SGT and CO being first-timers (even though our CO was fresh out of Ranger School).

I just signed up for the Guard though but for the past seven months now (fuck) I've been working on my packet to go Active. Just need two more signature's and I'm good to go... putting in for Italy, Germany and Ft. Lewis, where my younger brother's stationed (and deploying to Afghanistan in 12 days).

Oh, and I'm a Signal Support Systems Specialist.... so basically most of the radio/networking stuff.
