which band or bands do u think will have the same effect on future punk bands as the clash or the ramones had on todays punk bands?
ARE YOU TAKING NOTES OR SOMETHING?
goldfinger55
03/19/03, 04:19 PM
actually, yes. why?
if you're talking REAL punk, probably someone like...Avail, or The Explosion.
if you're talking FAKE poser punk, that in reality is no where close to punk at all, blink-182.

none, because true punk rock has come and gone. those original bands were the real influences, and for a modern band to make that sort of impression on people and a genre of music would take a lot....

teh feesh is the most influential person in all of history. I will continue to influence you and your children (and even make some of your children) for as long as i am alive.
you're wrong. you just don't know what punk rock is.
All the threads you ever make are Vote this or Vote that. or Vote for which to vote for who voted for what!

for someone to have influence like black flag, the ramones, the sex pistols, fugazi, or the descendants will be near impossible. Those were the bands who influenced and are still influencing punk rock today. some good punk bands that are still around are bands like afi, anti-flag, and bad religion....but i wouldn't call them influential

i'd say it would have to be some gay band that thought they were punk and started all these countless other bands that think they are punk (TBS, TSL, STD, NFG, SUM-41, Finch, Ataris, Alkaline Trio, Yellowcard, etc. etc. etc.-basically all of the shitty bands that you guys listen to) which inevitably leads to blink influencing this surge of trendy poppish boy bands.

despite what neph says, I would have to say Blink, The Ataris, MxPx, or maybe even NFG. those bands just express the scene the best.

bad religion not influential? they've been around since 1980 and basically defined modern punk, greg gaffin was like the first punk voaclist to actually sing melodies.

Bad Religion
Generic my ass, Each album has been a progression of the definition of what Punk music is.
And unlike bad religion they have yet to release a "BAD" album (what does BR have two now) or reasorted to touring with Blink to sell albums.
Ok CRPYPNKRCK tell me what a none generic band sounds like?
Also cool name, what was DTRRCKS taken?

Yes they have, ever heard of "new america"? or "No Substance" both bad, although ill give you better then what most bands can do.
And AFI would exist with out BR, now they wouldn't be around if there hadn't been a misfits or cure.
Don't get me wrong i have no distaste for BR, i just cant stand the ignorance in a comment like "AFI is generic,"

I don't even punk will be in the future, so it's pointless. If one band will be a major influence in the future, it's At The Drive-In, too bad they broke up or else it would be so much more obvious.

they made Into The Unknown in like 1984 or something and Greg played the keyboard. Rumor has it that the band buys any copy they find and destroys them... so yes they have made a bad album.

You act like i said they were the worst band ever, which i didn't. I was just comment on the person who called AFI generic.
ALso you my friend are a true idiot if you think that NEW AMERICA was a good quality album.

There are a couple of Bad Religion cds that i cannot stand...and i would consider them bad cds
but, if you make 2 or 3 bad cds out of 400, you're doing pretty good
i dont know if bad religion is the best punk band of our generation..i mean, lets face it half of this board is under 15 which makes their first bad religion experiences the new america...
ill vote for bad relgion as the greatest punk band still alive.
now that joey ramone and joe strummer have past on.

whoooooa tiger, you ok there? AFI is really good, but in my opinion i didnt think they did much for the scene. sorry if this offends you

afi is an interesting band yes, but in terms of expanding sound or broadening the range of punk, they really haven't done much. they've added some gothic aspects to it, but those were there before in many cases. and their first few albums were by no means incredible or transcending the way that Bad Religion has changed punk music. hell, they had songs about cereal.
oh, and bad religion didn't resort to touring with Blink to sell albums. thats just an ignorant statement right there. tell me, do you think that AFI resorted to selling out on this new album to make money? the argument could easily be made.
oh ya and i thought of another band. and its kinda sad that this one hasn't been mentioned, but then again i didn't think of it til now so i can't blame anybody else.
Refused.

I think we shouldnt judge whats punk and whats not. Isnt that the whole point of being punk is to not give a sht? By the way, blink 182 was way punk in the beginning, its just too much mainstream made them not as punk as before.

bad religion is without a doubt the greatest, most influential punk band of all time. if it werent for them there would be such a thing as punk rock today. none of the bands you listen to would be around.
